Bands where all the members are dead?

Aside from The Jim Hendrix Experience... are there any popular bands from say, the last 50 years, where all it's members are dead?

I think Lynyrd Skynyrd and the Ramones are down to one surviving original guy.

Not a band per se, but an r&b duo from the 90's. Damian Dame. The female died in 1994 in a car accident while the male died from cancer in 1996.

The originals in The Mamas & The Papas

I think Michelle is still around, but I don't think she was in the original lineup.

Re: Bands where all the members are dead?

Good (grim) topic! I'm going to have to think hard on this one.

As far as rock goes, I can't think of any modern bands this applies to. The closest would be The Exploding Hearts, whom 3/4 died in a van accident way too early in their career (IE; After one album). They were all in their early 20s.

For Squirrels, a mid-90's alternative band (R.E.M sound) suffered a similar fate, with two members dying in an auto accident.

In the jazz world, McCoy Tyner is the only remaining survivor from John Coltrane's "Classic Quartet" and drummer Jimmy Cobb is the only remaining musician from Miles Davis' "Kind of Blue" sessions. While jazz may be a bit of a different beast given the nature of the artists playing with many people rather than just one "band," these two groups stand up as two of the best collections of musicians ever assembled.

Re: Bands where all the members are dead?

Not actually all the way dead, but sadly the classic Temptations are 80% of the way there. Only Otis Williams survives. David Ruffin, Eddie Kendricks, Paul Williams and Melvin Franklin have all died.

Bob Shane is the only original member of The Kingston Trio still alive and I don't think he even performs anymore.

Re: Bands where all the members are dead?

Otis Williams is the only Temptations member of the classic 1964-1968 period who is still with us.
