Alan Wilder reunites with Depeche Mode in London tonight

Depeche Mode did a charity concert at London's Royal Albert Hall this evening and Alan Wilder joined them during an encore on "Somebody". First time playing with them in 16 years. Fingers crossed this sparks some type of interest with him working with them again.

omg yes! I just made this my Facebook status and posted that link. I loved the last two albums, especially Sounds Of The Universe, but I still would love a reunion with Alan.

Man, I really hope they reunite. Sounds of the Universe is a great album, but I'd love to see what Wilder could do again with them.

Anyone else have any Recoil albums? I have their first three and like them quite a bit.

Yes. I think he's working on another. Alan also remixed one of the new Nitzer Ebb songs.

I am hearing conflicting reports. Some say he played piano on "Somebody" and others say he just walked onstage.

Why would he just walk on stage? He played!

When I listen to the last few albums, I always think to myself "Man, as good as this is, I wonder how much better they would be if Alan was still with the band."

QFT. I certainly hope this is sign of them working together again.

Hoping for a thaw in the relationship. Depeche Mode was never the same once Alan left.

I never knew he left... Isn't DM pretty much just Gore/Gahan anyways?

Re: Alan Wilder reunites with Depeche Mode in London tonight

Oh man. No way. Alan is the one who would spend days flushing out the details of each track. Martin is great, but he usually would do a rough demo and Alan would take it from there. Just watch the documentary on the Deluxe Violater. Martin wrote Enjoy the Silence to be this very slow ballad, and Alan took it and created the faster paced song. He made that song what it was.

To me, this is why half the songs on the last few albums feel so sparse and minimal. Alan put all the details into the songs that made even non-singles so lush sounding.

Hope he does join the band again. I haven't really enjoyed DM since he left. What would be really cool would be a reunion with Vince Clarke.

Really? Clarke was only with them for the first album. Both DM and Clarke (with Erasure) have moved on and done much better work.

Oh, I agree both have moved on and accomplished great things. I just think it would be cool. I'll give you an example. Robert Smith had made a statement a couple of years ago that he would reunite with all past members of The Cure for a special show. I thought that was a great idea. Now, would it sound any better than The Cure sounds now, probably not but it still would be a cool thing to see.

how much longer is the Adam Lambert thing gonna be held against me? I don't even like his music, Depeche Mode, particularly the Alan Wilder years, are in my all time top 10 favorite artists... I have the right to post on their thread too.

And at the time (the night this happened), the conflicting report I heard was from a friend I've known for thirteen years who has been following the band since the Broken Frame era. Pardon me if I give what he says a little credence when the news was still fresh and YouTube videos weren't out just yet.

Adam Lambert!? LOL! Give me a break. This has nothing to do with any of that, relax. But your response was basically telling me I might not have my facts straight. FWIW, I have friends that have not only been following the band for years too, but two who work with their label who are allowed in the venues before their show and sit in the sound booth. They were tipped the night before Alan might be playing. And confirmed with me that night it was true.

I think most DM fans would not want Clarke to reunite with DM expect maybe on one song during a show. But everyone wants Wilder back. No, I would love to see Clarke give Erasure a break (who have been so tired for years), and do another album with Alison Moyet. Because that Yaz/Yazoo reunion tour was fucking smokin.

I prefer Erasure over Yaz, but I don't listen to either of them all the time.
