Your Favorite 30 Year Span Of Music
 

This poll is basically a desert island type of question:

"If you could ONLY listen to recorded music from ONLY a single 30 year span of time for the rest of your life, which one would you choose?"

This is broken up by standard decade, so just put the closest one for you out of the options even if you would choose some non-standard break for your personal 30 year span.

And any recorded music is considered to belong to the decade in which it was recorded, even if an album or a song of it isn't officially released until decades later. (Example: if a concert occurred in 1965, then it is considered music of the 1960s even if an official album of the concert was not released until a later decade.)

NOTE: This is strictly for when the music was recorded, not when composed. So a 1995 cover version of a song written in 1963 is considered 1990s music. And this goes for classical music as well, so count a recording's year as the year of the music, not the year of composition. (Example: a 1959 recording of Beethoven's 9th symphony counts as 1950s music even though the music was originally composed in the 1820s.)

70s 80s 90s for me.

Being a child of the 90s I have a fondness for that music because it's what I grew up on. It's a shame to have to lose motown, but I can deal. Also, hiphop was huge for me in the late 80s into the 90s so I would want that. My favorite rock music comes from the 70s, and the 80s has some of the best pop music (MJ, Prince, Madonna, etc).

1970s, 1980s, 1990s

Ditto about being a child of the 1990s. Sure some of the pop music was cheesy, but no more cheesy then some of the other big hits in the 70s and 80s. As I grow up though I have started to have a fondness for some rock from the 1970s and some pop from the 1980s so I had to includes those. As much as I hate to lose a few of my favourite albums from the 2000s I think there was much more in the 1970s I would enjoy.

I would actually say 1970's, 1980's, 2000's. The 90's wasn't the best decade IMO. Mainstream music may have been worse in the 2000s but if I were to compile a top 100 albums of all time list, I'd rank more 00's albums than 90's ones.

If it was an option, I'd choose 1965-1994. That's enough of the 60s to cover mid-to-late Beatles and a lot of Dylan, while still allowing enough of the 90s for stuff like Nirvana and the best years of U2 (up through Zooropa).

Otherwise, I guess I have to take 60s-80s.

Actually, on second thought, I've been getting into jazz lately, and the late 50s (especially 1959) are so important for that. But, I'll stick with my previous answers - for now.

60's, 70's and 80's for me, with the 80's being the big winner in my view, growing up then i loved almost everything from that period, my favorite and still to this day is 80's hair/metal and hard rock along with 80's pop music, 60's were great i love the beatles, the doors, jimi hendrix, and the 70's were great too i love the disco era (bee gees staying alive) and the rock wasn't too shabby, kiss, led zeppelin, boston, foreigner, rush etc.

'63 to '93.

'63 was when the Beatles first album came out in the US, that's far back enough, and through '93 would give me some of the grunge rock.

60's, 70's, 80's by far. I could live w/out the 90's even though I think most of my CD collection is from that decade (probably more a fact that CDs came to fruition during that time period). I'd really miss some 50's tunes for sure.

Anything 90's and on suck. Mostly hip-hop rap samples and no guitar god rock music

Good catch. All right, I'll take July 22, 1963 (the day the first Beatles album was released in the United States) to July 21, 1992.

Though '65 to '94 would also work, I'd get the best of the Beatles as well as the earlier grunge.

The '60s & '70s were both essential for me because both are literally bottomless wells of great music. So then the decision for me was whether to have the '50s or the '80s to fill in the 3rd decade. That was tough! But I went with the '80s due to the golden age of college rock back then which I would have a tough time living without.

This, although I'd miss A Hard Day's Night and a shit ton of amazing jazz, not to mention many avant garde recordings of the early 20th century. I might even have to inch it over to 1966-1995 in order to squeeze Different Class by Pulp in.

1967-1996

As Suprmallet pointed out, I'd miss out on AHDN and some great jazz, but I'd get the best of the psychedelic rock era, classic 70s rock, soul, disco, funk, new wave, classic hip-hop and house, and the first Lewis Taylor album.

60s - 80s, but if it was any 30 years, I'd choose around 56 - 85 instead, and not really feel I was missing out on much.

The classic hip-hop you mention all have 70's background music samples you know. So your not hearing anything new.
