Oh and to help Haiti while we're at it.
I'm sure the people of Haiti will really give a shit, after being on the receiving end of millions of dollars in humanitarian aid as a result of this project, that the celebrities involved were only do it for an ego boost. I'm sure they'll return everything forthwith.

I'd much rather have a large group of people do the right thing for all the wrong reasons than the opposite.

So you will be buying the song, putting it in high rotation on your iPod, wearing the t-shirt, buying the DVD, slapping the bumper sticker on your vehicle, brandishing the lapel pin, showing off your wrist band, and sporting the latest baseball cap all embossed with the official "We Are the World 25th anniversary Edition" logo?

Please do post pics.

So if I think it's a worthwhile gesture given the end justifies the motivations, I must be an an obvious sheep/mass supporter of the project. I see that you attended Wm Lopez Logic 101...

But to play along: why would I? I fucking hated the original song (as a song, not as a piece of charity). I fucking hate hip-hop. So no thanks. I've already donated to aid the Haitian relief effort through other channels.

I think it is pretty cool that they are redoing the song. Lots of great artists on that list.

For once can we just let something that was great for what is was just be? This is a complete desecration to the original concept and relief efforts this song was created to raise awareness and money for.

Hey artists listed above: How come you didn't get your collective butts together in a sound studio for 9/11 or the 2004 Tsunami or any of the myriad of travesties that have happened since 1985 but suddenly at the 25th anniversary of one of the greatest ideas to come out of the recording industry you can gang up and belt out a tune?

Give me a break.
I kind of agree, in the Washington Post Lil' Wayne is noted to have said that no such effort was given to the victims of the Hurricane in New Orleans - why should we help a third world country when we can't even help out own folk - our priorities are flawed.

That's horrible! Who the fuck is the lousy sounding kid that starts the song? Who thought it was a good idea to give Miley Cyrus a solo part? I'm a fan of the original and this is just a piss poor cover.

That's Justin Tune. Er, I mean, Justin Bieber.

Who is the guy who looks like Zach Galifianakis in the second row (at 4:18)?

Re: We Are the World 25 -- for Haiti

Wow, they really raped "we are the world". Yet one more example at how unoriginal current music "Artists" are. Keep thinking your auto-tune and screaming will change the world... Don't dare to ever try and write something original. Michael Jackson's nose(s) had more talent in it's plastic nostrils than most of these fools.

Re: We Are the World 25 -- for Haiti

Watching the video last night, I thought it was laughably bad. It seemed like an SNL sketch gone wrong. It was embarrassing when Lionel Richie was trying to get into it and "feel" the music. I mean, admirable goal and all, but this was just bad bad bad.

Incredibly bad. I had to literally step away from the TV last night to be far away from this shit. Yuck.

Re: We Are the World 25 -- for Haiti

umm

really bad how it starts off and then pretty much turns into a rap song

it's pretty embarrassing that some of them are reading the damn lines off the paper as they sing it too, sheesh is it that hard to remember?

Horrible. Hated the original, hate this 10x more.

If you can get Jeff Bridges and Dennis Wilson out of there, then that would've been a good time to "accidentally" detonate an explosive in that room. Could've been a good start to cleaning up the "music" industry.

On the bright side, no Cyndi Lauper this time around.
