The Mars Volta - Octahedron

Listened on lunch and dozed a bit. Man, that is one trippy album to doze to .

Photobucket

These New Puritans - Hidden

Still, because it's amazing.

And put one on from last year I never spent proper time with:

The Big Pink - A Brief History of Love

The Big Pink - A Brief History of Love

I like it a lot, but I still feel like it's missing something.

Still not sure I like the Lights EP on the whole, but "Drive My Soul" is a great track that got no airplay down here. I think I'm going to pick up the full length album once my eMusic credits refresh. Just missed seeing her in concert last week, too. (I found out about it the day of the show, and it was sold out. She opened for Owl City.)

Today at work:

That's the order I would put them in, as well, with the gap between 1 and 2 being small, 2 and 3 being larger, and 3 and 4 being the Pacific Ocean.

The new eels is fantastic. I need to check out their old stuff. Is it all this depressing and downcast though?

No, not all of it. I have heard the new one is pretty grim. Pick up Electroshock Blues and Daisies of the Galaxy. Two great albums.

Re: What are you listening to? [February 2010]

I've been on a Saxon kick lately. I've been buying up their remasters of Strong Arm of the Law and Wheels of Steel. I'm still waiting for Denim and Leather to come in the mail.
Also mixed in some Motorhead- Another Perfect Day which really kicks.
The opening track Back at the Funny Farm opens up with some classic riffage.

I can't remember who suggested the free download of the Dark Mean EP (probably Sessa), but I just received an e-mail from them the other day indicating that their new EP Music Box (also free?) will be available online in the next couple of weeks. Looking forward to it!
