Re: The 2010 new Rush album and tour thread.

According to an interview with Alex they are also dusting off another old song:

Spoiler:
"Tom Sawyer" could have been written eight months ago, with the kind of response it still gets. We're bringing a bunch of other old stuff back, "Jacob's Ladder," too. We're rearranging it slightly, as with "The Camera Eye," changing a couple of things, having another crack at it. It's going to be a lot of fun for us.

They just announced a stop in Wichita in August at our new arena. Rush is one of those bands I have always said I really need to see one day. This is the year and I cannot wait.

I'm glad I'm not the only one. Although I'll go see them at both types of venues, IMHO RUSH sounds better indoors. I know indoors they'll sometimes put up speakers towards the rear for an almost surround sound effect.

All concerts sound better in arenas than in the summer sheds. And since arenas aren't stuck out in the middle of nowhere, you have different options for parking, things to do before/after the show, etc.

Re: The 2010 new Rush album and tour thread.

I've seen Rush twice outdoors and once indoors. I saw them in West Palm Beach on December 8th of 1996 and in St.Louis at the Verizon Wireless Ampitheater on June 28, 2008. I also saw them in Oklahoma City in the Ford Center on April 26, 2008. I probably enjoyed the indoor sound the most but there was something raw and captivating about the outdoor sound for the two other concerts. I'm looking forward to getting tickets and seeing them later this year here in Tulsa at the BOK Center.

I hope they film one of these shows for a BD release. We need Rush in Rio on BD while they're at it.

I think Rush (if not every major rock act) will be releasing DVD/BD of every tour at this point, so there's no worries there.

I don't think Rio was filmed in HD. Something about not having small enough HD cameras for the drum kit. That's why it's not widescreen either.

Re: The 2010 new Rush album and tour thread.

Anyone heard the 2 new songs yet?

Do they sound more like Snakes & Arrows-type stuff or more like Vapor Trails? Or neither?

I think they remind me of Counterparts, but I did only listen to them 1.5 times this morning. The songs need to grow on me but I think I'm going to love the jam on Carvan.

Hmm. Half of Counterparts is really good, the other half is pretty much crap. I can't wait to "acquire" and listen to them later tonight.

Bought both of them today, and have really enjoyed listening to them thus far. Think they're both excellent!

Re: The 2010 new Rush album and tour thread.

I don't care much for Caravan. It has that funky bass, a la Stick It Out, Virtuality, etc. and I don't care much for Rush songs that have that sound. I also don't really care much Geddy's singing on it.

BU2B is quite a bit better, but still nothing special. Kinda tempers my expectations for the new album, but I loved Snakes & Arrows, so maybe these 2 will not be representative of the whole album and I'll end up loving it.

Snagged the two songs with some Amazon credit I had laying about. The first song was decent but the second song was much better.

Re: The 2010 new Rush album and tour thread.

This is the supposed setlist from today's rehearsal:

Spoiler:
Set 1

1. The Spirit of Radio
2. Time Stand Still (last played on Counterparts tour)
3. Presto (never played live)
4. Stick It Out (last played on Test For Echo tour)
5. Leave That Thing Alone (last played on Vapor Trails tour)
6. Workin' Them Angels
7. Faithless (never played live)
8. BU2B (new song - never played live)
9. Freewill
10. Marathon (last played on Presto tour)
11. Subdivisions

Intermission

Set 2

12. Tom Sawyer
13. Red Barchetta
14. YYZ
15. Limelight
16. The Camera Eye (last played on Signals tour)
17. Witch Hunt
18. Vital Signs (last played on Vapor Trails tour)
19. Caravan (new song - never played live)
20. Drum Solo
21. Alex Solo (something new)
22. Closer to the Heart (last played on Vapor Trails tour)

24. Far Cry

Encore

25. La villa Strangiato (last played on R30 tour)

Very underwhelming. Other than Camera Eye, Faithless, Marathon, and La Villa, there isn't really anything in there that excites me.

Glad I waited instead of buying tickets.
