Best version of "Papa Don't Preach"

Given how all 3 versions are on youtube (for now lol), i figure why not do a poll. Yes i know which version most people are going to pick (and which version most are gonna say sucks), but what the hell right. Also, at least make an attempt to listen to all 3 before making your decision
The version we all know

the Kelly Osbourne version

and finally the Glee version

I know New Year's Day is a day with usually nothing to do but creating this poll must have taken some serious chemical inducement.

All of the choices are bogus.

This one is the best:

not one of Madonna's better songs IMO, but still, anything's better than Kelly Osbourne. I like "Glee" but IMO their interpretations of songs are no different than saying you prefer some American Idol performance of a song better than the real thing

Madonna on this one all the way. I still don't get the live for Glee.

For the OP...I prefer the Madonna version

As for Glee...for me...it's not really the singing but it's the performance along with the song that makes it good. There are 2 great singers on Glee...everyone else is ok.

I agree. I don't really care so much about their versions as much as that it's a fun feel-good show, and the fact that they used well-known songs to further the stories only makes it more essential viewing for music lovers. It's my favorite current show but I've never downloaded a single track or plan to buy the albums, but in the context of the show, I love the music. What it does is reminds me of songs I loved the originals of.

Before this thread I (thankfully) didn't know there was more than one version of this song. Thanks a lot for shattering my innocence.

I really like Dianna Agron's version on Glee, especially making it acoustic. However it's only 1:09.

So as far as this poll goes, Madonna still gets #1.

Madonna's version of course. If just for the background music. She had great producers in those days.

Another agreement - watched the first 4 or so episodes and it was far too shrill and annoying for me to ever want to see more.

Maybe he meant to say "like" not love.

Did they tinker with Shakespeare's stuff? Let the artist's original work stand as is, and wait for Suprmallet to explain his intent, perhaps on some roundtable forum, or an Artist's Studio appearance.

Perhaps he doesn't feel the attention Glee gets is rabid enough to be called love. Maybe he thinks it is only puppy live and will be lost by April, when it returns.

Re: Best version of "Papa Don't Preach"

I voted for the Glee version. I love the show, but feel the same way nothingfails does- most songs work within the context of the show, but don't stand alone very well. This song might be an exception.

Kelly Osbourne's version is just painful. That whole California surf beat, mixed with her "edgy" look just don't work for me.

I love the symphony in Madonna's original. The way the violin is used really makes the point that this girl is in pain. She's also young and somewhat naive, which is why I gravitate towards the Glee version. Dianna Agron's voice is so soft- in stark contrast to Madonna's (ultimately more interesting overall) rough voice. The lyrics to this song just work better with a pure, younger sounding voice, imo. The acoustic guitar makes a hell of a lot more sense than whatever it is Kelly Osbourne used, but my ultimate version would be Madonna's violin and Dianna Agron's voice!
