Is that Robert Downey Jr? Didn't know he could play guitar that well.

Anyone else going to see them in concert over the next few months? I have my ticket to their Toronto show in June. Can't wait, especially after watching that video for In the Sun a couple of times yesterday.

You can now hear the album in it's entirety at NPR:

http://www.npr.org/templates/story/s...ryId=124615798

It's nice, a continuation of the first album.

Zooey Shmooey. This is an M. Ward album which is always something to anticipate buying.

I like Zooey somewhat but her voice isn't really that great. M. Ward has a fantastic voice though.

M is a fantastic guitar player, saying he has a fantastic voice is just comical. It is every bit as limited and one-tone as Zooey's.

This really isn't an M. Ward album though. It is an equal contribution collaboration. Zooey Deschanel writes the lyrics, sings, and plays piano; M. Ward produces and plays guitar. I assume that both of them play other instruments as needed.

And as far as singing is concerned, I don't think people buy a She & Him album to hear M. Ward sing, because he didn't really sing at all on the first one (save background vocals on a song or two) and I expect he won't be singing much on Volume 2 either.

Yes, Zooey is flat. M. Ward is gravelly and unique and fits the dustbowl style of his music perfectly. Not everyone needs to be Jeff Buckley but you need to bring something to the table.

True. But it definitely has the M. Ward signature sound. As for the reason people buy it, also true, except for people like me that are interested in an M. Ward side project.

I'm a huge M fan but you are calling him something he isn't. His voice isn't gravelly at all. He just sings in a whisper. Neither of them are fantastic singers by any stretch but Zooey at least vocally brings way more to the table than M.

Re: She & Him - Volume Two (3/23/2010)

M. Ward is a decent singer, but obviously he is a better musician and producer. Objectively speaking, Zooey has the better voice of the two; I would say you are in the minority if you think M. Ward can "out sing" her.

And I agree with Sessa17, M. Warda sings in a whispery voice, but there is nothing gravelly about his voice at all.

Really? Most M. Ward songs are slow, dirgelike and non-commercial. She and Him songs are light, poppy and commercial sounding. I was struck by how little She and Him sounds like M. Ward albums.

What is this, American Idol? "Outsing" her? Who said that?

I prefer Jeff Tweedy's voice to Josh Groban. It hardly means anyone is outsinging anyone else. Whispery, gravelly, what a ridiculous argument.

Are you serious? Tom Waits = gravelly. Mark Lannegan = gravelly. M. Ward sings in a hushed whisper. Listen to an interview, there is no gravel to his voice. Listen to Tom Waits, he can't lose it.

We all agree we are all fans, again I LOVE M, everything he does. I think others agree here you just are stating things that don't seem to really make sense. Such as saying She & Him have M's "signature sound" which even he states it is a project to do something completely different and tailored to Zooey's persona, not his own which were his own words.

Agreed. The layering of sound in V2 compared to the relatively simple sound in V1 is a nice evolution. On my fourth listen now. The whole album is great, but I'm really enjoying "Don't Look Back", "Lingering Still", "Home", "I'm Gonna Make It Better" and "Over It Over Again".

All I can say for now is that I think I might have a new favorite album of the year.

I saw this on the shelf at my local Target today. Tried to get it but they couldn't sell it to me due to the street date not being here yet. I figured it was worth a shot anyway.

The Best Buy ad indicates that this will be on sale for $7.99 starting Tuesday. Fantastic price! Previously the Best Buy website listed it at $12.99 and Amazon currently has it at $12.88.

Yep, I cancelled my Amazon preorder, because tomorrow it will enter the shipping soon and I'm not thinking they'll match.

I am spoiled by Amazon prime, but since I have to go to TRU for them to basically give me Toy Story and Toy Story 2, I can just go across the street to pick this cd up for such a great price.

Really looking forward to it. I also hope they come to play in Phoenix-for some reason we're getting skipped by more tours from mid level artists to big time artists. I think it would be great to hear them play and also kind of surreal to see Zooey in that context after being a fan of her in movies since Almost Famous.

If she gives me that wink, though, I'm leaving my wife.

For future reference, Amazon always seems to match the best advertised B&M price on release day, and if you preordered, you'll always be charged whatever the lowest Amazon price was between the time you ordered and the end of the day the item was released. If they charged you more at shipping, they'll automatically refund the money in a couple days with an email confirmation to let you know. I've never had a problem with them not honoring this.

That said, I forgot to preorder this when I was preordering Mad Men Season 3 a couple weeks ago, so I'll be headed to Best Buy on Tuesday as well.
