Amazon Accidentily Ships Out Lil' Wayne's "Rebirth" Nearly 2 Months Early

Lil' Wayne's rock-album Rebirth, which has been delayed numerous times, had pre-orders shipped out on December 14th on accident chalked up to "a shipping error". The new retail date was February 2nd.

I'm totally in the minority that enjoyed the singles that have been released so far. The song he does with Eminem is the best on the album. He probably should have held it off for Carter IV, though.

Would the three people who bought it please promise to not open it until February 2nd? kthxbye.

I fail to see how this would happen, as Amazon wouldn't even be receiving it, themselves, to ship out until a week before the street date. Sounds like B.S. to me.

The album has been completed for awhile. They've been delaying it so they could get a single to make some sort of chart position, and with Wayne being sentenced to prison in February, I'm sure they were anticipating larger sales then since he'll most likely be locked up for a bit.

The album also has leaked online now as a result, so I don't know if you were saying what I posted was bullshit or if its bullshit for Amazon to have had copies this far in advance.

If the cd is already finished and prepared, why not release it NOW? Christmas season sales are roughly 80-90% of the total annual sales these days. In Feb, you can make the top 10 with sales that you can't break the top 75 during December with. You'd think Lil Wayne would try to release it when people are buying it.

Well, this album is Lil' Wayne's foray in to the rock/rap genre and response to his overall singles have been lukewarm at best.

Cash Money was going to just pair this up and throw it in as a freebie with the Young Money album which drops Tuesday but decided against it at the last minute because the thought was they could cash in on a month typically plastered with weak albums and with the free publicity Wayne will get when he's sentenced.

Plus the fact that not only Little Wayne, but most rap artists, are notorious for delaying their album releases. The Carter III was pushed back monthly for an entire year before it's eventual release.

Anyway, I'm not saying BS on you mcfly, but where is your news source for this? Having worked in retail myself, I can tell you for a fact that most retailers only receive product the weekend or maybe a week before actual street date. Especially for music releases. They want to do everything they can to avoid as much potential chance for early leaks and pirating as possible. Movies you may get 2 or 3 weeks before they are due to drop, but even then, that's an exception. It might be slightly different for Amazon, as they need to have the product earlier so they can ship it to arrive in time for street date to customers. But still, I highly doubt they have the product just sitting around when it hasn't even been given to other retailers yet.

I'm glad it was leaked so we don't have to hear about it for the next two months. His stuff is overhyped as is and I got tired of the hype surrounding his last album when it wasn't anything special.

I could have sworn I saw this advertised in the latest Best Buy or Target flyer this week...

It was because it was supposed to come out this Tuesday. It was delayed back in November though to February. The ads still had it listed.

Lil Wayne has overexposed himself to an extreme level. He does enough guest shots on other artist's tracks to release an album a month. Just in the last few months I've heard him on tracks by Weezer, Madonna, Drake, Shakira, Chris Brown, Britney Spears, as well as about two dozen other acts. Why should anyone care about his CD when he's on every other song on the radio?

Umm, because his actual fans want to hear what he puts out. There's a reason why he's featured on a lot of songs nowadays. He's popular and say what you want but he's a very talented lyricist.

I'm not the guys biggest fan but I'm not going to crap all over him. He's got talent and he stays fresh.. he didn't have the #1 selling album of 2008 because nobody likes him.

Nice sentiment and threadcrap.

At this point, I'm surprised they don't just move the release up and make it official.

If you don't even like the guy why would you come in to say such a horrendous and asinine comment. I don't understand some people.

I'm sure they will. I don't think they can do it this week though without last-minute advertisement and with this being the week of Christmas since retail deliveries are all whacked out.

Yeah, if people want to listen to an untalented criminal perform generic, uninspired rap, I say let them.

Criminal, yes. Untalented, hardly. And I'm not even a big fan.

That's the general sentiment.

A lot of people just throw him under the bus as some run of the mill biter or something. The guy doesn't even write down lyrics, everything's a freestyle. The way he records is pretty crazy.

Say what you want about his music - if you don't listen to rap you wouldn't be in this thread anyway - but being talented and some generic "thug" are night and day with Wayne.

Why would somebody pre-order two months before the release date? Why not wait until the release date and look for new release deals from Best Buy, Target, Tower Records, etc?
