MTV really hurts by not showing videos like they did in the 80's.
And the radio stations not playing any european groups like they did in the 60's,70's and 80's.

I think it's Van Halen since all their albums were big hits in the 80's and U2 had only one monster hit album in the 80's. But I always hear about U2 as the 80's band.

Sorry, I didn't realize you were specifically asking for bands.

Given that AC/DC released the second highest selling album of all time in 1980, I would think it would be them.

I do believe Suprmallet is correct. Even though all of their 80's albums weren't smash hits, Back In Black alone is enough to tip the difference. Especially when you take into consideration that it still sells, on average, around 300,000 copies year, and has done that or more every year since it's release.

Plus, I'm sure For Those About To Rock and Who Made Who both sold very well at release.
