Them Crooked Vultures: 01 No One Loves Me & Neither Do I 02 Mind Eraser, No Chaser 03 New Fang 04 Dead End Friends 05 Elephants 06 Scumbag Blues 07 Bandoliers 08 Reptiles 09 Interlude With Ludes 10 Warsaw or the First Breath You Take After You Give Up 11 Caligulove 12 Gunman 13 Spinning in Daffodils from pitchfork: Ever since the triple-headed stomp-rock supergroup Them Crooked Vultures whirled into existence, we've been keeping up with just about every little scrap of whomp-ass they've released into the world. Finally, on November 17, Dave Grohl, Josh Homme, and John Paul Jones will leave the shadows and come into the light. That's when their self-titled debut album will finally hit North American shelves, via DGC/Interscope. (It's out November 16 in the UK on Columbia.) We've got the tracklist below, but all you really need to know is that Dave Grohl is back behind the drums and that there's a song called "Mind Eraser, No Chaser": |

I heard one track live, New Fang, I think, and they sounded good. I'll likely pick this up if BB has it for $9.99.

Incredibly excited about this one.

Re: Them Crooked Vultures: S/T - 11/17/09
Saw them in Detroit a few weeks ago and JPJ was so awesome. They all were, actually, but JPJ played several different types of guitars and keyboards. He friggin' rocked the keytar out. Sounded great.

Re: Them Crooked Vultures: S/T - 11/17/09
yeah, looking forward to this.
I love Queens of the Zeppelin Fighters Should be great. |
Re: Them Crooked Vultures: S/T - 11/17/09
Saw the Nashville show a few weeks ago and it was amazing. Never thought I'd be able to see JPJ perform live from 10 feet away and Grohl's performance was jaw-dropping. Hope the album is as good as the live show!

Bump...surprised there hasn't been much talk about this one here since it came out this week. I stopped by Best Buy on Wednesday to pick it up but they were sold out. Of course they had what looked like a hundred copies of the new John Mayer collecting dust, lol. I ended up downloading it from amazon since it was only $7.99.

What kind of bit rate does Amazon offer the download in? I wouldn't do it unless it was 320 k/s |
Re: Them Crooked Vultures: S/T - 11/17/09
Huge let down for me. Was really hoping this album would be great. I don't even like one song.

Re: Them Crooked Vultures: S/T - 11/17/09
Some cool-sounding riffs, but no really memorable songs. Considering the personel involved, I had expected more.

Re: Them Crooked Vultures: S/T - 11/17/09
I'm a bit underwhelmed my first time through. Will give it a few more chances though. Some of my favorite albums of all time, I was underwhelmed with initially.

Re: Them Crooked Vultures: S/T - 11/17/09
Ya know, I just don't get this album. I just don't. Aside from Reptiles, Caligulove, & Spinnin in Daffodils.....this is album is pretty terrible and the three songs mentioned I like average at best.
I blame this on Homme - his sound is dominant on the album and it amazes me that he was even able to work with John Paul Jones - was John just kicking back while this was being made? Homme also bombed out with the last qotsa album (era vulgaris) I gave this album many, many, listens thinking I was missing something but I wasn't - it's just a big let down. |

The album is very Homme. If you don't like him, you probably won't like this IMO. I happen to think Vulgaris is a fantastic album, so eh...to each his own.
He's on some kind of wacky trip with his sound and I'm just not digging it. I know to each is own....I'm big on saying that as well - I'm mainly just frustrated because it's so damn hard to find good music in this genre nowadays. |
