Hmm, I can see Bob Dylan do a Christmas album, but what does the Pope have to do with Christmas?

Definitely looking forward to the Dylan. The others...not so much.
Hopefully there will be a wealth of good indie stuff along the way.

Know who recently released another Christmas album? Neil Freakin' Diamond, that's who!
Even without having listened to it yet, I know that it must be mine - solely for his take on "The Chanukah Song".
Neil Diamond's Christmas Collection 'A Cherry Cherry Christmas'
Available Everywhere Tuesday, October 13 NEW YORK, Sept. 30 /PRNewswire/ -- Columbia Records announces the release of A Cherry Cherry Christmas, the new Neil Diamond holiday collection, available in stores and online Tuesday, October 13.
The title song, "Cherry Cherry Christmas," is filled with references to many of Diamond's greatest hits. Newly written and recorded by Neil Diamond for Christmas 2009, it is destined to become a new Christmas standard.
Newly included with the re-mastered classics are a transcendent "Amazing Grace"; another new Neil Diamond original, "Christmas Dream"; and a party-time version of Adam Sandler's comedic "The Chanukah Song," produced by DJ Ashba (Guns N' Roses).

A Fine Frenzy - Oh, Blue Christmas
Good stuff. Physical CD is a Target exclusive. Also out digitally on iTunes.
Family Force 5 - Family Force 5's Christmas Pageant
I gave this a listen today and I don't think I'm in their target demo. It was okay.

His take on "O Come All Ye Faithful" is probably the most BOMBASTIC one I've ever heard (which I love it). And I've heard a bunch of CCM versions.

Re: 2009 Christmas Albums
MxPx - Punk Rawk Christmas
Spoiler:
More of a compilation than a new album, these guys have been putting out Christmas songs every year for the last decade. But in that time, this band has gotten pretty "meh." I'm sorta tempted to get this because I never officially paid for about half of the tracks that are on it (and the other half I don't care about). Maybe if it shows up on eMusic.

Hmmm. I might have to check out that MXPX comp. I was kind of into them back in the 90s (love their covers EP).
I saw that a couple of weeks ago and felt compelled NOT to post it here.
Not an album, but the Killers' annual Christmas single - "Happy Birthday Guadalupe!" - come outs on December 1st.

^ I still haven't picked it up. I want the cd/dvd deluxe version, but the Japan disc has 3 extra cuts, the dvd is a different region, then I think Amazon's dvd has extra footage (a video?) I can't figure out which version to buy...

Re: 2009 Christmas Albums
I bought the Sting album/DVD and while it's "nothing new", I wouldn't say it's horrible. Pretty bland from the head of the Police, but nice winter background music...
