10/13 David Archuleta - Christmas from the Heart
10/13 Bob Dylan - Christmas in the Heart
10/13 Sugarland - Gold and Green
10/26 Rob Halford - Winter Songs
10/27 REO Speedwagon - Not So Silent Night...Christmas with REO Speedwagon
11/09 Tori Amos - Midwinter Graces
11/30 Pope Benedict XVI - Alma Mater

Re: 2009 Christmas Albums

Hmm, I can see Bob Dylan do a Christmas album, but what does the Pope have to do with Christmas?

Re: 2009 Christmas Albums

Definitely looking forward to the Dylan. The others...not so much.

Hopefully there will be a wealth of good indie stuff along the way.

Re: 2009 Christmas Albums

Know who recently released another Christmas album? Neil Freakin' Diamond, that's who!

Neil Diamond's Christmas Collection 'A Cherry Cherry Christmas'

Available Everywhere Tuesday, October 13 NEW YORK, Sept. 30 /PRNewswire/ -- Columbia Records announces the release of A Cherry Cherry Christmas, the new Neil Diamond holiday collection, available in stores and online Tuesday, October 13.

The title song, "Cherry Cherry Christmas," is filled with references to many of Diamond's greatest hits. Newly written and recorded by Neil Diamond for Christmas 2009, it is destined to become a new Christmas standard.

Newly included with the re-mastered classics are a transcendent "Amazing Grace"; another new Neil Diamond original, "Christmas Dream"; and a party-time version of Adam Sandler's comedic "The Chanukah Song," produced by DJ Ashba (Guns N' Roses).

Neil Diamond - A Cherry Cherry Christmas
Tracklisting:
- Cherry Cherry Christmas
- Sleigh Ride
- Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas
- White Christmas
- Christmas Dream
- The Christmas Song
- Deck The Halls / We Wish You A Merry Christmas
- Jingle Bell Rock
- You Make It Feel Like Christmas
- Winter Wonderland
- Joy To The World
- Amazing Grace
- Meditations On A Winter Night (Instrumental)
- The Chanukah Song

Even without having listened to it yet, I know that it must be mine - solely for his take on "The Chanukah Song".

They must've spent an entire hour on that Neil Diamond CD cover.

And that includes the 50-minute commute to work that day.

A Fine Frenzy - Oh, Blue Christmas

Good stuff. Physical CD is a Target exclusive. Also out digitally on iTunes.

Family Force 5 - Family Force 5's Christmas Pageant

I gave this a listen today and I don't think I'm in their target demo. It was okay.

File this one under "Totally Unexpected Christmas Releases":

He's offering the "Christmas for Everyone" mp3 single for free at his website: http://www.robhalford.com/

I have this one. Listening to it, I kept thinking he'd break into his scream voice, but he never does, he just keeps it 'light'. Decent enough album.

His take on "O Come All Ye Faithful" is probably the most BOMBASTIC one I've ever heard (which I love it). And I've heard a bunch of CCM versions.

Re: 2009 Christmas Albums

MxPx - Punk Rawk Christmas

Spoiler:

1. PUNK RAWK CHRISTMAS (previously unreleased) (2009) (new)
2. CHRISTMAS DAY (1998)
3. CHRISTMAS ONLY COMES ONCE A YEAR (1999)
4. COMING HOME FOR CHRISTMAS (2000)
5. YOU'RE THE ONE I MISS (THIS CHRISTMAS) (2001)
6. CHRISTMAS PARTY (2002)
7. CHRISTMAS NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD (2003)
8. SO THIS IS CHRISTMAS? (2003)
9. IT'S CHRISTMAS AND I'M SICK (2004)
10. 2005 (2005)
11. LATE GREAT SNOWBALL FIGHT OF 2006 (2006)
12. GIMME CHRISTMAS (2007)
13. ANOTHER SONG ABOUT CHRISTMAS (2008)
14. AULD LANG SYNE (TRADITIONAL) (previously unreleased) (2009) (new)

More of a compilation than a new album, these guys have been putting out Christmas songs every year for the last decade. But in that time, this band has gotten pretty "meh." I'm sorta tempted to get this because I never officially paid for about half of the tracks that are on it (and the other half I don't care about). Maybe if it shows up on eMusic.

Re: 2009 Christmas Albums

Hmmm. I might have to check out that MXPX comp. I was kind of into them back in the 90s (love their covers EP).

I saw that a couple of weeks ago and felt compelled NOT to post it here.

Not an album, but the Killers' annual Christmas single - "Happy Birthday Guadalupe!" - come outs on December 1st.

I bought this one a few weeks ago and it's horrible IMO. I realize he doesn't have much interest in anything resembling rock these days but this has to be the most boring album I've ever heard.

Re: 2009 Christmas Albums

^ I still haven't picked it up. I want the cd/dvd deluxe version, but the Japan disc has 3 extra cuts, the dvd is a different region, then I think Amazon's dvd has extra footage (a video?) I can't figure out which version to buy...

Re: 2009 Christmas Albums

I bought the Sting album/DVD and while it's "nothing new", I wouldn't say it's horrible. Pretty bland from the head of the Police, but nice winter background music...
