RIP WBCN (Boston radio)
Seems hard to believe, but WBCN in Boston is closing up shop, and becoming a sports radio talk station. For those unfamiliar, the station has been a stalwart of the local radio scene and one of the few stations in the country with a nationwide influence. It helped break acts like Tom Petty, U2, Elvis Costello, and numerous others.

Thank God WEEI is finally getting some real competition.

Re: RIP WBCN (Boston radio)
Wow, I had no idea. I used to listen to 'BCN religiously when I was a kid.

Re: RIP WBCN (Boston radio)
I heard about this earlier and nearly wept. Went to college in Boston, 'BCN was always on my stereo, in the car, at the dorm, first apartment, everywhere. They had great programming, great talent, killer interviews and awesome shows all around.
Thanks to Cox, Infinity, and Queer Channel for the homogenization and destruction of American testicular radio. |
Re: RIP WBCN (Boston radio)
Sad, sad, sad. Gonna miss them when I'm in the area now. Another great station bites the dust.

Same here. I also listened to WAAF - wonder if they are still around.

Re: RIP WBCN (Boston radio)
I can't speak to whether it will be any good, but the station will still exist. It will still be online and will broadcast digitally as an HD radio subchannel to the new sports station.
