3/1/10 (Monday) John Hiatt - The Open Road - $3.99
I love John Hiatt! This is the brand new album that's supposed to come out tomorrow. Needless to say, I'm buying it. edit : Someone posted a review saying there's static noise on the download. I might wait a few hours to see if Amazon fixes things before buying it. |
Re: Amazon MP3 Album DOTD thread (part 3)
New 100 albums/$5. Some good stuff this month -- Patti Smith, Sleater-Kinney, The New York Dolls, Deerhoof.

They must be setting up some sort of sale, because they have Roxy Music's Country Life for the same price.
EDIT: Okay, I did a price search for albums that cost $3.68 and got a few hundred items, including Bowie, Iggy Pop, and Herbie Hancock. |

7digital is having another album sale -- this time they're $4 each. A lot are repeats of their holiday sale, but they have a few new ones like the new MJB album (which is $5 at Amazon now) and the new Lil Wayne album. 42 albums in all.
For those that don't know, they're a foreign company, but they provide good quality, legal downloads of US albums. I did get a little currency exchange service fee on my CC statement after buying stuff from them last time. Link |

Apple's trying to get Amazon's DOTD screwed over by asking record labels not to do business with them.

Re: Amazon MP3 Album DOTD thread (part 3)
I think that Amazon's day-early release DOTD is a little dirty and unfair to the competition, but once you hit the release date, low prices on downloads are fair game in my book.

Anybody mind copying and pasting this here, I can't get to that site at work. Haven't read the article yet, but ugh first the record companies, now apple, they just want to be the 500lb gorilla, uh no, we need competition to benefit the consumer.
Apple has laid down the law with labels considering promoting their albums through Amazon’s MP3 Daily Deal. Amazon apparently raised Apple’s ire when it asked labels for a one-day exclusive sales window on digital albums featured in its daily promotion. “When that happened, iTunes said ‘Enough of that shit’,” one label exec tells Billboard. Another elaborates: “Amazon is fighting a guerrilla war against iTunes, and now iTunes is getting frustrated because they work hard to set up and promote a release weeks in advance of the street date, and then lo and behold, Amazon jumps in there with this deal of the day and scrapes off some of the cream.” The article suggests some labels have already pulled planned Amazon promotions as a result of Apple’s demands. |

Re: Amazon MP3 Album DOTD thread (part 3)
I think Invisible Touch was the group's undisputed masterpiece. It's an epic meditation on intangibility. At the same time, it deepens and enriches the meaning of the preceding three albums.
Unfortunately, a review on Amazon indicates that they're using a short version of Tonight, Tonight, Tonight. Which just makes me want to drop a chainsaw on whoever's responsible. |
