"Favorite" Artist Tournament: Selection Thread(Please Post Your Top 10s)
 

For those that are unfamiliar with how these work. Everyone interested in participating needs to post their top 10 favorite artists, order is unimportant. I will take those lists and compile them into a master list, with tallies going ownh for each artist. Any artist that is on two or more lists is eligible for the tourney. Once the selection process is over(Usually 7-10 days), I will seed out the tourney into single elimination bracket format. All ties are broken with Random.Org's List Randomizer. Once it is seeded out we will start voting in the polls and eliminating artists until we have one left standing.


Top 10 List Deadline: 10 AM ET: 6/15

So get your lists in. All artists are eligible for this tourney. We will move on to album next, from there we will decide.

...this was very difficult only naming 10. I was able to take off some by who has already been named and I took off others I think will be picked later. My original list had more than 30.

On a side note, I don't know what forum it would fit under, but "Favorite Stand-up Comedian" would be a fun tournament.

Personally, I think expanding the number of contributions will only dilute the final ballot. Every year since 2001, I have organized a retrospective CD for my friends. Basically, I keep a running list of released singles through the year, and older songs that have a connection to something during the year that resonates with someone get nominated. For instance, a song played at a wedding might be nominated. Anyway, I have everyone cast no fewer than ten and no more than twenty votes from the master list, with the stipulation that only one song be chosen per artist. (There is a loophole for duets.) It might seem haphazard with nine of us voting, but once you actually tally up the votes there are typically only about 20 songs that receive three or more votes.

When you're doing something like this for a collective, you end up seeing true democracy in action. Our typical master list will have nearly 200 songs on it, and out of those 200 only 20 will resonate with a third or more of our group. Those 20, then, really are the songs that were the soundtrack for our group's year. Having more songs on the master list would only result in more songs not making the final cut.

A larger pool is good to an extent. Once we get too many in, we will end up a lot of early round matchups where people only know one side of the ballot and really probably shouldn't vote. We are running into that a little now in the TV Character Tourney. We did lists of only 10 for that tourney and their ended up being 168 entries into the tourney.
