Do you think you should raise it to people's Top 20 or 25 so you get a larger pool and more variety to choose from?

Personally, I think expanding the number of contributions will only dilute the final ballot. Every year since 2001, I have organized a retrospective CD for my friends. Basically, I keep a running list of released singles through the year, and older songs that have a connection to something during the year that resonates with someone get nominated. For instance, a song played at a wedding might be nominated. Anyway, I have everyone cast no fewer than ten and no more than twenty votes from the master list, with the stipulation that only one song be chosen per artist. (There is a loophole for duets.) It might seem haphazard with nine of us voting, but once you actually tally up the votes there are typically only about 20 songs that receive three or more votes.

When you're doing something like this for a collective, you end up seeing true democracy in action. Our typical master list will have nearly 200 songs on it, and out of those 200 only 20 will resonate with a third or more of our group. Those 20, then, really are the songs that were the soundtrack for our group's year. Having more songs on the master list would only result in more songs not making the final cut.

A larger pool is good to an extent. Once we get too many in, we will end up a lot of early round matchups where people only know one side of the ballot and really probably shouldn't vote. We are running into that a little now in the TV Character Tourney. We did lists of only 10 for that tourney and their ended up being 168 entries into the tourney.

I have a question. If I mention a single person, can it include a group he was in before, or does it have to count as only the solo career?

I would think each "identity" would be unique. I mean, Beatles fans might not necessarily care for Ringo's solo career but would nominate the Beatles and Paul separately because each era really is distinct.

I hate trying to whittle it down to only 10 artists. I like too damn many, and there's any number of which that I like just as equally as another. There are quite a few artists already listed, of whom, I own most (if not all) of their respective catalogs (i.e. The Who, Rolling Stones, Led Zeppelin, U2 or Pearl Jam...etc). However, that doesn't necessarily qualify them as my "favorite", or any less than those in my 10 picks. With that in mind, I guess these will do as good as any for me. And just for the hell of it, I'm going to pick a few bands no one else has yet, either...

The Beatles
Alice Cooper
KISS
Thin Lizzy
Cheap Trick
AC/DC
INXS
Stone Temple Pilots
Superdrag
Nada Surf

...of course tomorrow, at least half that list could change.

This is correct. Paul as a solo artist is a seperate entry from The Beatles.
