Rate My Collection: Music Talk Edition

Lifehacker had an article today about a new website that does for your iTunes library what DVD Profiler and DVD Aficionado do for movies. All you have to do is upload your library.xml file.

Finally, Music Talk can have one of those masochistic threads where we make fun of each other for not having sufficiently good taste, just like DVD Talk!

I'll go ahead and start with my collection.

Re: Rate My Collection: Music Talk Edition

This is nice idea but let's be real one could have a (Massive Collection) pages and pages of great music.

How in the world could Itunes library have "it all" here is one point I have well over 70+ remixes of Depeche Mode-Enjoy The Silence (I am remix junkie).

And I been collection music (since I was 6 years-old) I don't have that time on my hands! to list everything I own cause that would take a lifetime.

But Sean thank for starting this thread all the same!

Sean, I don't really have time to go through a large playlist, but I do thank you for the heads up on this site. I'm definitely going to use it. I just joined and uploaded as "atlantamoi".

Just perusing my list of "B" groups. Weird. I've got one Backstreet Boys tune directly followed by Bad Brains.
Laura Branigan followed by Brazilian Girls. My love of a cheesy 70's/80's songs here and there makes my list look very schizo.

I will rate your collection with the following observations...

1. You and I could probably endure a 12 hour road trip together. I would suggest we spend the first couple hypothetical hours listening to The Pogues.

2. My favorite bands are Phish, My Morning Jacket, The Hold Steady, and Okkervil River. I understand that Phish is an acquired taste and not for everyone. However, My Morning Jacket is woefully underrepresented, and I really think you'd like The Hold Steady and Okkervil River.

3. You also need more Ted Leo and the Pharmacists. I recommend The Tyranny of Distance.

im gonna get pure hell for this, but i actually didn't know this was a Depeche Mode song. As there is a song by Lacuna Coil of the same name, and when i googled it, sure enough same lyrics. Their version is on their album Comalies.

I still haven't converted a lot of my CDs and singles over to MP3.

Re: Rate My Collection: Music Talk Edition

I tried this yesterday and my .xml file apparently only had one quarter of my music listed. I exported a new .xml file and tried to upload that but it only gives me a 404 error when I get to the final step. The "List Browser" page seems like it's updated to the new .xml file because it says I've got 23000+ songs. But when I look at my collection it still lists only the 6000 songs I first uploaded.

I tried contacting them via their website, but I get an error when I try to send that too.

Re: Rate My Collection: Music Talk Edition

I finally got around to trying this again. This time I used a different .xml file and it worked. Must have been something wrong with the first one I was using. The one that worked was a smart playlist: All checked items; minus podcasts; minus type video; minus artist "blank".
