The set looks interesting. I've never really heard their BBC performances.

Yeah, I'm all over this. I've come to love the hell out of their Unplugged/live stuff over a lot of the studio work.

REM is one of my all time favorite bands, so the 8 cd version is a must for me.

Got the big BBC set from my mom for Xmas. Only watched a bit of the DVD but it's some nice stuff so far. It's a small box for so many discs, all the discs are in paper envelopes and there's a nice booklet. But the overall presentation is very nice.

Also the DVD is not in FilmAficionado yet, if it doesn't show up soon I'll try to work on it.

I really wanted the BBC set, but the Christmas onslaught of expensive deluxe editions (Dylan, Lennon, and the Beatles) drained me.

Re: R.E.M.: Deluxe Edition Reissues Thread

Never understood the hate this album gets. I was more of a hard rock fan at the time and their earlier work was too poppy for me so maybe the change with Monster is what I liked.

Re: R.E.M.: Deluxe Edition Reissues Thread

Nice set. That is a must have for me. My favorite album by REM and the live set is what I am looking forward to most. Hopefully it is well mixed and mastered decently. I still listen to the Atlanta 95 soundboard bootlegs all the time. The 95 BBC show was a disappointment as it didn't sound very good. They didn't remix it or anything from the original broadcast mix, so hopefully this Chicago show will be mixed from the multi-tracks and sound better.

Re: R.E.M.: Deluxe Edition Reissues Thread

I used to listen to that in my car all the time. I had a CD player where you could program the name of the CD and it would display it on the radio. That CD used to show up on my screen as REM-MONS. The juvenile in me always found that a little bit funny.

I believe Monster has the distinction of being the most sold-back/used CD of all time.
You'd go to a used CD store back in the day, and they'd have a hundred copies of Monster - most stores stopped taking them.

Monster vs Pearl Jam's Vitalogy, who is the used CD shop champ?

Yep, I still see both every time I look at used CDs.

Monster is a criminally under-appreciated album. I haven't bothered with any of the other re-issues, but this one I think I'm going to try to scrape up the pennies for. Especially since it has Road Movie, one of the 3 DVDs I don't have yet.

And has that Chicago concert ever been released before?

Re: R.E.M.: Deluxe Edition Reissues Thread

From what I can gather the Chicago show has never been released before not even as a soundboard bootleg. Not sure about an audience one but to have a 95 show from the multi-tracks officially released is exciting news for me at least.

Re: R.E.M.: Deluxe Edition Reissues Thread

I read on another site that someone claimed to have talked to someone in the REM camp and that they have every show from the 95 tour (and I assume on but the post was specific about 95) recorded on multitracks and that a Nugs style archive release of some of the shows is or was being discussed.

Re: R.E.M.: Deluxe Edition Reissues Thread

Did any of you guys get the Automatic for the People Deluxe Edition? I never picked it up but am thinking about it now. How is the supplemental material?
Wich it wasn't in such a big and bulky box.

I like the packaging for Monster, but am only mezzo/mezzo on the album as a whole. I think it's fine, but nowhere near as interesting as the two previous ones.

Glad it's CD sized, I don't have space for giant box sets anymore.

I bought the box for the lossless/5.1 Blu Ray but the supplements aren't anything worth listening to more than once. If you do Spotify, you can stream the whole set without having to shell out $65.

I'll be picking up this Monster set for same reason. I've never understood the hate for this album. I think it's fantastic & one of my favorites. Might just be my personal experience, but this album captures the feel of the early/mid 90's better than most & saw my first R.E.M. show on the supporting tour.

Yeah mostly got it for The Dolby Atmos blu-ray... Sounds fucking Amazing

I agree the big box was bullshit and not necessary... Out Of Time package is sweet.

Monster box looks great with the 2019 remix CD & complete live show and the Blu-ray has the 90 min documentary.

I finally got the Out of Time Blu-ray set. The included demos are pretty decent and it's nice having the album in hi-rez quality.

I saw REM live in 95. I’m tempted to have live recordings from that time.
