Re: R.E.M.: Deluxe Edition Reissues Thread
Received the Unplugged set for Father's Day and have been listening in the car. Very glad to have this, even if the second session has a lot of songs I never really got into.
Didn't check the runtimes but I would have like to hear a little bit of the chatter in between songs.

Yeah, I don't get it. I have a huge collection of CDs and vinyl, but digital-only pretty much means I'm just going to steal it.
I did buy the Unplugged set. I was glad to see that. They were both great setlists and it was fun hearing the extra stuff.
It would be cool if they started doing other official live releases. Like those Bingo Hand Job shows that they did with Robyn Hitchcock, Billy Bragg, etc. Those shows were so much fun to listen to. You could tell they were having a blast. I've had a cassette bootleg of one of them for years, but I assume Peter Buck's got a better copy somewhere. I seem to remember that he's supposed to have a huge collection of R.E.M. live recordings.

The Unplugged sets are good and for the most part they picked appropriate songs. Radio Song, however, sounds fucking awful.

This seems to be the most active R.E.M. thread, so I'll throw this news here:

R.E.M. and MTV Team Up for REMTV Six-DVD Retrospective
Featuring a new documentary, "MTV Unplugged", award show footage, and lots of live performances
By Jeremy Gordon on September 26, 2014 at 3:40 p.m. EDT

R.E.M. and MTV have announced REMTV, a six-disc DVD retrospective that compiles R.E.M. performances from MTV award shows, "MTV Unplugged", concerts between 1995 and 2008, "VH1 Storytellers", a new documentary, and more. It'll be out November 24.
The first disc includes the band's first (1991) and second (2001) performances on "MTV Unplugged", plus outtakes. The second has the band's 1998 "VH1 Storytellers" episode, including unaired versions of "New Test Leper" and "(Don't Go Back to) Rockville", along with performances from various MTV award shows and music shows, plus the band's 2007 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction. Three more discs compile live performances between 1995 and 2008, comprising 99 songs, nearly half of which are unique. (So you won't be watching three dozen takes on "Losing My Religion".)
The final disc includes "R.E.M. By MTV", a feature-length documentary that chronicles the parallel development of the band and the network. (R.E.M. released their first single in 1981, the same year MTV was launched.) "R.E.M. By MTV" will also premiere on VH1 Classic and Palladia in November.
Find the full tracklist here.
"It occurred to us that there's all this footage of some of the band's absolute career highlights sitting in some MTV vaults in London and New York-- and thanks to a lot of effort and digging and arranging, this is our chance to share that music with various generations of R.E.M. fans in a pretty unique release," band manager Bertis Downs said in a press release. "And Alexander Young's documentary is a fine way to tell the story of R.E.M. through its various twists and turns, as captured in real time by MTV's cameras-- it has some great funny bits too!"
Pre-ordering REMTV will allow fans to download a mono recording of a 2003 show in Milan, Italy that won't be included in the retrospective.

Looks good, but I'm concerned with the price. Have a hard time spending a lot of money on DVDs.

Re: R.E.M.: Deluxe Edition Reissues Thread
Geez, there is ten live versions of "Man on the Moon" and "Losing my Religion". Talk about overkill.
Still, this is a must have item for me. Maybe Santa Claus will give it to me for X-Mas.
I too would love to see more live stuff from their IRS years released, especially Rockpalast 1985. I've seen this on Youtube a million times but I still would love to see an offical release on dvd.

This is one of those sets that I would have loved in college, but as an adult I can't imagine watching anything on it, other than the Unplugged performances, more than once.
4 discs of random musical performances is a bit much. Don't get me wrong, I love that somebody is doing this, but it would have to get around $40 for me to get it.
Also, this is a case where, even if they would still be in standard definition (given the source material for the most part), I would still have rather had this on a blu-ray to save tons of space and to have ease of selecting songs.
I'm pretty sure they could have put this all on 1 disc unless they were using master audio tracks on some of it. Even then, they could put the Unplugged sets & documentary on 1 disc and probably put all the other 4 on another disc. They could have even put a checklist feature to select songs to make some awesome playlists. That would have made it more enticing to me.

It's 69.99 on Amazon. If I find it a little cheaper down the road I'll probably get it.
Anyone know offhand if it duplicates anything on any of their previous DVDs?

complete article http://www.billboard.com/articles/ne...er-bros-albums
R.E.M. has entered into a multi-year, worldwide licensing agreement with Concord Bicycle Music for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee's catalog recorded from 1988 to 2011.
The deal covers the years R.E.M. recorded for Warner Bros. The group's pact with the Burbank-based label expires at the end of the year and the Concord deal begins in early 2016. Among the albums under the new agreement are Green, Out of Time, Automatic For the People, Monster, New Adventures in Hi-Fi, and Up. Worldwide sales for these albums tally in excess of 85 million albums, according to Concord.
The Concord deal does not include R.E.M.'s earlier albums recorded on I.R.S., which now go through Universal Music Group. R.E.M., which formed in Athens, Ga., in 1980, disbanded in 2011. Should the band reform to make any new recordings, they are not covered under the current Concord Bicycle deal.
While no timetable has been set, Concord Bicycle plans to release deluxe reissues of the albums with bonus material and exclusive packaging on its Concord imprint.

I wonder if we'll ever get a physical release of the two complete rarities collections that were digital only a year or so back. The obsessive in me would like having a fancy box set, there was a lot of great stuff in those collections.

It's showing 21.52 L units, whatever that is.
Is this a Region 1 NTSC set? And how do I do shipping to the US? I've never ordered off an international Amazon page before.

It's region free. It should play in the US. I just bought it the other day for around $30 shipped. I think you can just log in with your Amazon account. Shipping to the US is easy and surprisingly cheap (but takes several weeks to arrive). The price will change when you check out. Shipping will be added but VAT will be removed. You can't tell the price until check out. You also have the option to pay in USD

Yeah, mine always calculates the total price is US$ in my cart, maybe because I have an account with a U.S. shipping address.
Mine took less than 2 weeks to get here and as stated above, the discs are region free and play fine in my player. It is quite a lot of material for that price.

Had to get my wife to help me figure out international buying (she's the eBay/Amazon person in our home) and it's on the way.
Now, to get into the FilmAficionado database. No idea why it's not in there yet.
