OasisNoel Gallagher appreciates your business, but he'd like you to know that the current wait time for a new Oasis album is approximately five years.


"By the time we make another record we'll be five years older," he told Q Magazine.

Why the wait? Well, the Britpop frontman seems keener than ever to follow through on his solo album plans. Plus, he's lacking motivation to write new Oasis material.

"Even before the end of making each Oasis album, I've always started writing the next one, and I haven't this time," he said. "I don't 
want to force it."

Which is not to say that he's lacking tunes. "I've got a lot of songs lying around and some of them are really great," he said. "But they're not Oasis songs. They're going to sit there and do nothing, so hopefully at the end of this tour I'm going to go and do something for myself."

Noel's brother, Oasis singer Liam, might also have something to do with the musical selfishness, as their notoriously contentious relationship shows no signs of easing. Noel gives us an idea of the family dynamic: "He's never seen my little lad [son], just pictures," he said. "To a stranger it sounds ludicrous, but you wouldn't have him in the house if he spoke to you the way he speaks to me and my family."

And what sort of sweet words does Noel use to describe his bro? "He's rude, arrogant, intimidating, and lazy. He's the angriest man you'll ever meet. He's like a man with a fork in a world of soup."

Considering I haven't heard anything exciting from them in 14 years, this doesn't surprise or bother me.

Oasis have done nothing but put out mediocre material since "Be Here Now" IMO. I'm all for a break if it means solid tunes in 5 years.

First Jimmy leaves the Pumpkins, and now this. Been a bad last couple of weeks for bands who reached their creative zenith a decade-and-a-half ago.

Hey Depeche Mode, Spandau Ballet and Ultravox are going on tour. At least bands that reached their creative zenith 2 decades ago are thriving.

Gotta love the American naivety here :lol:. Oasis are still superstars in the UK, they just had a few top 15 hits there from the most recent album. Some people think if someone's not huge in their country, they must be unknown. Luckily, I follow the UK rock scene more than our own, because too many big North American rock bands now are either emo, screamo or the Nickelback/Kid Rock white trash vein. Oasis never stopped making good music, MTV and rock radio just stopped playing them. But the latest album was a small comeback for them, their first top 10 album since 1997 and "The Shock Of The Lightning" was their biggest rock radio hit since that time as well.

Well, Oasis aren't emo, nor do they cater themselves to the white trash demographic, so I don't see it.

But yes, it is naive to think Oasis broke up long ago because US radio quit playing them when in the UK they are regarded on the same level as someone such as U2 or Metallica.

Anyways, I AM American. I just actually check to see what's popular in other countries as well instead of thinking American tastes are superior to all, because I'd rather listen to groups like Oasis and The Verve to Nickelback or Fall Out Boy.

You like Oasis regardless of their popularity in the US, yet you don't give American bands that same level of respect. I think your problems lies in that you focus too much on top 40 charts/MTV. Just because a band is popular doesn't mean they are good. You stated this yourself when you listed Nickelback & Fall Out Boy as popular bands you don't like. Yet you feel the need to claim that Oasis must be a great band because they are popular in the UK. Even though they may be popular, don't you think it's possible that there are British people that feel the same way about them as you do about Fall Out Boy?

Why do you feel the need to base your own personal tastes on a band's popularity? If I like a band I don't need to search the internet country by country to make sure other people feel the same way I do.

FYI...of the 15+ friends I have from the UK and from visiting there off and on the past 5 yrs I can tell you that they aren't still regarded as highly as you claim.

BTW...I like Oasis and I despise Fall Out Boy

You should have left Depeche Mode out of your response. The other two just reunited. DM have toured and sold critically acclaimed new albums all along. Their last one in 2005 was considered their best since "Violator".

The last couple of Oasis albums have been fantastic. I hope it doesn't take them as long as he says to release another one.

I'm not sure which Oasis albums some of you have been listening to for the last 10+ years, but they've been extremely solid all along. Standing on the Shoulder of Giants and Heathen Chemistry are probably my two favorite of their albums, and I've been a fan since Definitely Maybe. Their last two albums were also very strong.

I doubt it'll be 5 years until the next album. Noel says a lot of stuff in interviews often times just to be funny or get a rise out of people. Other news outlets take the info and run with it. It happens all the time. Liam's twitter responses to this are funny though. Noel and Liam have been talking shit about each other for a long time now. They're brothers in a band - and most of the time they don't get along. The press eats it up.

On the other hand, it could be 5 years. They won't be done touring the new album until next fall and they usually take a year off anyway. The last 3 albums have had 3 year gaps. If Noel finally does record his long rumored solo album, it could tack on a year or so.

I don't like/dislike groups by their popularity, but I generally don't have any time for what passes as "rock radio" in America. They play nothing but nu-metal and emo, and stuff like Nickelback. None of which has any appeal to me. I don't dislike it because of it's popularity but because there's absolutely nothing about it that has any appeal to me. But yet there's some rock music that is big in Europe that I can listen to and enjoy. I'm not one of those "OMG this is #32 on the chart, it's too popular for me" snobs, I just honestly can't think of anything about Nickelback that would make me want to listen to them, has nothing to do with their success.

I also post on a UK-based music board (UKMix) and when Oasis were getting ready to drop their new album, it was the type of mania on a board you'd expect when someone like U2 or Madonna would release a new album. They are definitely still considered a big deal there, even if America views them as that Beatles knockoff who had a couple hit records in the mid-90's.

they did about three or four weeks worth of shows here last fall around the time of the release of Dig Out Your Soul

How were they? They strike me as a "either really good or really bad depending on the night" type of band.
