Beck: One Foot in the Grave [Reissue - Expanded] - April 14th, 2009
from pitchforkmedia:
Beck to Reissue One Foot in the Grave
On the "Do I Really Need This?" reissue scale-- with Chris Brown's near-instant Exclusive re-release on one side and Springsteen's Born to Run redo on the other-- the second coming of Beck's One Foot in the Grave (out April 14 on Interscope) safely resides near Bruce's corner. Exhibit A: It's a very solid record-- a must for those into Beck's acoustic busker side. Exhibit B: Though originally released on K Records in 1994, it has been out of print since 2005. Exhibit C: The reissue is packed with 16 bonus tracks, most of them Grave-era outtakes that have never been officially released.
Talking to Japanese newspaper The Daily Yomiuri a few weeks ago, Beck gave up some details about the Grave redo: "I've actually been working on this for the past two or three years. [On] the original tapes there were an extra maybe 30 songs that weren't on the record and I picked the best. So it's got about a little over a dozen extra tracks that no one's heard before." And, according to a press release, there's 13 previously unreleased tracks. ("Teenage Wastebasket" appears twice-- once solo acoustic and once full band.) That's practically an entire new album's worth of Beck songs. Not bad.
Beck also told The Daily Yomiuri about some recent studio sessions with Charlotte Gainsbourg for her next LP.

One of the few Beck albums I don't have...so very cool.

This is, far away, Beck's best album. To think that there's now another album showcasing a style he's not going back to (and honestly, probably can't return to) is amazing.

Wow, my first reaction before opening the thread, was "been there, done that". I never expected there would be this much new stuff that hadn't been released before. I'll be getting it.

My first reaction was, "Wow. This is completely unnecessary." Luckily, I quickly realized that I was mixing up One Foot in the Grave with Stereopathic Soul Manure. I will be buying this.

I lost my disc for this, so I'll be picking it up. I'm glad it's got a lot of unreleased songs, unlike the recent Paul's Boutique rerelease.

Well... anyone else get it? Haven't given it a proper listen but from the few tracks I've heard, it's already worth the purchase (for me, at least).
If you've never gotten this album and you like his folkier/stranger side, this is indispensable.

Here's one of my favorite of the expanded tracks:
Beck — "Woe on Me"
