Re: Beatles Remasters Officially Coming 09-09-09

Amazon had more of the Mono sets this morning for $229, scheduled to ship in several days. Unfortunately I dicked around with my nearby B&N, and by the time I found out they hadn't gotten any in today (they were scheduled to get one), they were still available at Amazon, but with a 3-6 week wait. Ah well -- I'll appreciate it all the more when it arrives...

It appears they have the mono set in stock at B&N.com but they want nearly $300 for it before a members discount. Also it's not eligible to order with coupons.

I don't have the cash to get this right now, but for once Canada has a decent price - the Mono set is only $219.99cdn here at HMV

Re: Beatles Remasters Officially Coming 09-09-09

Just got back from BB, and they're pretty ridiculous over there.

First off, there were no signs of the new Beatles stuff in the music section, or even the new-release section at all - they had put them all in the videogame section with the Rock Band games (a bunch of old cooters were wandering around looking for the new CDs, oblivious to the game).

And while they had plenty of stereo sets (at least 20) they had no mono sets. Although according to the employee, their inventory shows that they're supposed to have 5 copies of the mono sets, but they can't seem to find them. Highly dubious....

Pitchfork has some pretty comprehensive reviews of the sets, comparing EQ readings of the new masters to the old ones, along with individual album reviews, which are up to MMT (they'll post the rest tonight), including Rock Band. Well-written stuff.

That's really easy for BB Corporate to self-monitor. They simply need to inform each regional manager that that sort of thing will cost them their yearly bonus. Problem will be solved REAL fast. Simply check the item number against the first hour sales. If they don't show up as being sold during that period ... ask why.

Fortunately, anyone that wants a mono box set can order it from Amazon as we type.

Does that add up to $50? Don't know, I don't work in manufacturing, but it is evident that it is more expensive than a regular digipack.

This was right at opening - they had just put everything out and hadn't sold anything yet. The employee who stocks everything said that they just couldn't find the mono sets that they were supposed to have. I asked why and he just shrugged... way to misplace over a grand in stock.

Re: Beatles Remasters Officially Coming 09-09-09

I was surprised to find that the local Best Buy still had a mono set at noon today, but mine has already shipped from Barnes & Noble. For $179 shipped instead of $229 plus tax, I can wait a couple of days. It's supposed to be here on Friday.

Best Buy had everything (one mono set, one stereo set, the individual CDs, and the Rock Band games) on a table near the front of the store.

I picked up Abbey Road, Let It Be, Yellow Submarine, and Past Masters at Target. Those along with Rock Band should keep my mind off the mono set until it arrives.

Yeah, I paid dearly not getting in on that B&N deal. Bought the Mono today from Amazon. Lessons learned.

I still think Target has a hell of a deal buying the stereo albums seperately (~$145). I could care less about the box since they're all going in my Box of Vision anyway.

I expected the BB near my work to have a bunch as it's one of their biggest stores, with the most foot-traffic and most amount of product of all their stores. I'm just surprised that they'd be so clueless as to misplaced items.

Re: Beatles Remasters Officially Coming 09-09-09

The local Best Buy received around 20 Stereo sets and 2 Mono (which I purchased). The had a nice table display in the entrance with everything related to the Beatles, including the Rock Band sets, the CDs that come with T-Shirt and Crates and other Beatle stuff, like the Cirque du Soleil DVD, Help! DVD and A Hard Day's Night DVD.

Re: Beatles Remasters Officially Coming 09-09-09

Looks like FYE.com has most of the remasters for $9.99 each after rebates ($12.99 - $3 rebate), or $14.99 ($17.99 - $3 rebate) for the White Album and Past Masters. I'll probably be picking up 6 or 7 of them there.

Sorry if this is a repost. I ran a search on the thread for 'fye' and didn't get any results.

AV Club's review is pretty hilarious. So much has been written and said about the Beatles that you may as well write a sarcastic, mockery of a review.

That was brilliant.

"It is not easy to categorize the Beatles’ music; more than any other group, their sound can be described as “Beatlesque.” It’s akin to a combination of Badfinger, Oasis, Corner Shop, and everyother rock band that’s ever existed. The clandestine power derived from the autonomy of the group’s composition—each Beatle has his own distinct persona, even though their given names are almost impossible to remember. There was John Lennon (the mean one), Paul McCartney (the hummus eater), George Harrison (the best dancer), and drummer Ringo Starr (The Cat)."

Re: Beatles Remasters Officially Coming 09-09-09

Was hoping that the new Beatles remasters would be on sale at Banes and Noble, but no, $16.99 each. So even with the $5 coupon and membership not the best price. Target seems to be best for the single issues, $9.50 each after you factor in the gift cards.

Re: Beatles Remasters Officially Coming 09-09-09

Both sets were waiting for me when I got home today. Interesting note is that I'm an Amazon Prime member, so 2-day shipping was free. I paid an extra $4 for 1-day on the mono set. Amazon sent both overnight. So I'm not sure if they would've done that anyways or did it to both since I upgraded one.

Anyway, VERY happy to finally have these. The packaging for the mono set is awesome.

Re: Beatles Remasters Officially Coming 09-09-09

Checked with my local B&N today, and no Mono Sets, but I get a call in the afternoon that they got *one* in -- I rush over and scoop it up using my member 10% off, another 15% off one item, and the store's 10% off Beatles stuff for a total of $205. I come home and cancel my $229 Amazon wait-3-to-6-weeks order. Sweeeeet.

My single copies of The White Album (stereo), Abbey Road, and Let It Be came in today. Not super crazy about the digipacks. They're too bulky. Very happy that the rest of the catalog will be in LP replica packaging instead (since I ordered the mono box). They all went in to the Box of Vision, and it looked a little cramped, but that's the way the instructions said to do it, putting in the CD first than the full digipack afterwards.

As far as Abbey Road is concerned, is it also remastered from the 1987 mix or is it remastered from the original 1969 mix? The linear notes of the CD claim it is remastered from the original tapes, but I'm not entirely sure...

And is Let It Be remastered from the 1970 mix or is it remastered from Let It Be...Naked?

Thanks in advance!

I agree with you. The digipaks are not that great. Too bulky and the discs are just begging to be scratched (the entire package is slick paper, except for the cardboard side that the discs rest upon). Definitely glad I went the Mono route, if only for a safer method of packaging.

Oh, the mono set isn't numbered as was reported earlier. A tad disappointed, but oh well. Still very happy

Rubber Soul and Help! are the only stereo remasters that use the 87 mix. The rest are all original master tapes. Rubber Soul and Help! original mixes are only available with the mono box.

Re: Beatles Remasters Officially Coming 09-09-09

So, if I wanted to buy these all separately at Target, I would need to buy:

Please Please Me
With The Beatles
A Hard Day's Night
Beatles For Sale
Help!
Rubber Soul
Revolver
Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band
Magical Mystery Tour
The Beatles
Yellow Submarine
Abbey Road
Let It Be
The White Album
Past Masters

And I would get $35 in GC's?
