Re: Mastodon "Crack The Skye"
What i love about them too, is that while it may be a more mainstreamish sound, its far from a true mainstream hard rock sound (think seether, and all the crap they play on rock radio.

Re: Mastodon "Crack The Skye"
I finally gave this album enough listens to give an honest opinion....and the verdict is positive, good stuff, thank whatever higher power that they exist

Re: Mastodon "Crack The Skye"
I had on the radio last night, and 98 rock is now doing a segement at 10 called 'music that doesn't suck', and the dj played "Oblivian" and said he hopes the station plays it more often

Re: Mastodon "Crack The Skye"
Never heard these guys before, listened through a couple times and I must admit this is the best album of the year so far. My favorite song so far is The Last Baron, it's epic.

In comparison, i think Blood Mountain sold like 11,000 its first week

Re: Mastodon "Crack The Skye"
Epic show in San Francisco tonight. If you like Mastodon do not sleep on this tour. The visuals they have to go along with their entire set (including Crack The Skye from start to finish) are pretty rad.
Also I was happy to see that Kylesa and Intronaut opened. I liked both bands before coming in and it was nice to see a show where I enjoyed all the bands (which is rare) |

Now that is a great set list!
In SF in terms of older material we got lots of songs from Leviathan, yet reading tour dates from a week ago some other folks got more songs from Blood Mountain and so on. |
Re: Mastodon "Crack The Skye"
i read 1 setlist that they opened the 'classics' portion with Bladecatcher then Colony of Birchmen which would def have me foaming at the mouth if they did that in dc

Re: Mastodon "Crack The Skye"
If you use the Zune Marketplace, they are giving away the song Divinations from Crack the Skye, not sure how long that will last.

Re: Mastodon "Crack The Skye"
Show on tues was great. I got to meet Brann Dailor as well. That guy is a beast on drums and is a hellava nice guy as well. Talked to the fans that were waiting by the tour bus for a good 10 minutes or so. he did mention that Mastodon may release a new dvd next year.
Also got my picture with him http://i40.tinypic.com/35mnuwn.jpg Also tonight is the night they are on Letterman too |
Re: Mastodon "Crack The Skye"
Awesome pic Rypro. Sounds like a blast. I can't wait until they come to CA on their own. Stupid Coachella.
Got my DVR set for Letterman tonight! |

There were always two kinds of people at shows. The ones that bought merch and wore it because they didn't want to hold it or sling it over their shoulders. Then there were the others who wore what they bought because it showed that extra mile in terms of how much they liked the band. Though isn't paying for a ticket and being up front singing every word show that you are a big fan enough? P.S: This is no offense to you, just what I've noticed as of late (or more) :) |
Re: Mastodon "Crack The Skye"
Regarding shirts, when I go to a metal show, I wear shirts that aren't from metal artists. Like Bob Marley, The Smiths, or Siouxsie and the Banshees.
But when I go to a concert that isn't metal, like Ani DiFranco, I'll wear an Iron Maiden or Slayer shirt. |

Re: Mastodon "Crack The Skye"
Anyone else think they seemed a little off on Letterman, like they were nervous or something? They usually play, and sing, much tighter. I was pretty underwhelmed. Also sucked that they cut down the intro.
