Jimmy Chamberlin leaves The Smashing Pumpkins

as if no one saw this coming, Corgan is done without Chamberlin..unless he hires Danny Carrey or something

THE SMASHING PUMPKINS' BILLY CORGAN ANNOUNCES THE DEPARTURE OF JIMMY CHAMBERLIN FROM THE GROUP

CORGAN SET TO HEAD INTO THE STUDIO TO CREATE NEW SMASHING PUMPKINS MUSIC

The SMASHING PUMPKINS' guitarist, singer, songwriter and founding member Billy Corgan has announced that drummer Jimmy Chamberlin has left the group. Chamberlin joined the band Corgan founded in Chicago in 1988 and played on all their albums except Adore (1998). Corgan will continue to write and record as SMASHING PUMPKINS with plans to head into the studio this spring.

Jimmy's reponse
"By now you have heard the news of my departure from the Smashing Pumpkins. I will say, without going into any unnecessary details that this represents a positive move forward for me. I can no longer commit all of my energy into something that I don't fully possess. I won't pretend I'm into something I'm not. I won't do it to myself, you the fan, or my former partner. I can't just, "Cash the check" so to speak. Music is my life. It is sacred. It deserves the highest commitment at every level and the Pumpkins are certainly no different. I'm sorry but it really IS that simple. There is no drama, bad blood, or anything else but a full commitment to music. My best goes out to Billy and I'm glad he has chosen to continue under the name. It is his right. I will continue to make music with the Jimmy Chamberlin Complex as well as pursuing other musical interests. I feel that I have a long way to go and a lot to give. Thanks to everyone for your kind words and support through all of this. I am constantly humbled by all of you! It is an honor and a privilege to play music for a living and I don't take it for granted not even for a second. "

Why can't Billy Corgan just disappear?

Re: Jimmy Chamberlin leaves The Smashing Pumpkins

maybe he just figures he can be a figurehead for ticketmaster and livenation now and doesn't need a band and can just license his songs out for credit card commercials for dough.

Billy needs to release some Gish/SD/MCIS era live shows....or at least some MCIS demo songs.

So I guess that means no hope of another Zwan album?

Re: Jimmy Chamberlin leaves The Smashing Pumpkins

I was curious about Jimmy's thoughts on Corgan's recent antics berating the crowd. Safe bet that it has something to do with him leaving?

If he insists on staying in the music biz, Corgan should start from scratch. No point in keeping the SP name now.

Re: Jimmy Chamberlin leaves The Smashing Pumpkins

Corgan is a fucking whiny bitch, period. He complains about the fact that no one gave two shits about the new SP record like anyone gives two shits. I'm sure he's a nazi in the studio, which is why he's now alone.

Do everyone a favor: grow your hair out long, dye it black, change your name and start a My Chemical Douchebags cover band. SP were relevant at one point in time. That time has now passed so move the fuck on.

Re: Jimmy Chamberlin leaves The Smashing Pumpkins

It's just sad what's happened to sp. Went to see Billy on his solo tour in 2005 and left halfway through. I still haven't even opened up their new cd that's been on my shelf for over a year.

What ever happened to the final show dvd we were promised? They could still make some decent bucks releasing that.

Saw Smashing Pumpkins last year, guess that might've been it. Didn't really like the concert but I guess it might've been my last time.

I never considered the current non-Iha, non-Wretzky version of Smashing Pumpkins to be Smashing Pumpkins anyway. I'm not even sure how I feel about the version of the group with Melissa Auf der Maur

That is the plan. Apparently Frank Quinto is releasing the archived stuff.

You must not consider Siamese Dream to be a Smashing Pumpkins album then.

I'm far from being a Pumpkins expert, but I'm pretty sure all four of the "classic" members played on Siamese Dream.

Corgan overdubbed most of James' and D'arcy's parts with his own.

Well Frank and Billy need to to put a fire under their asses and get this stuff out.

And that "Final Show" DVD needed to come out 7 years ago.

Somehow an overdub seems different to me, and even if Corgan did most of the guitar and bass work on the album, Iha and (to a lesser degree) Wretzky had a presence too.

Re: Jimmy Chamberlin leaves The Smashing Pumpkins

yeah this has been argued over and over again.
Corgan recorded most of everything, but for whatever reason James and D'arcy being around made Corgan suck less.

Stuff that is already out on the hub/rsppa? Or something entirely different?

While I'm reasonably certain I probably have a few things not readily publicly available, it's been close to a decade since I cataloged or organized any of it.

Re: Jimmy Chamberlin leaves The Smashing Pumpkins

I can see it now, Corgan convinces D'Arcy to rejoin and states that she's always been his true musical soulmate. Meh...

Seriously though, he shouldn't call it Smashing Pumpkins anymore.

It's like the Beatles. Toward the end, they were all doing their own things in the studio, yet there's some intangible and indescribable difference between a Paul McCartney song off Abbey Road and a Paul McCartney song off McCartney or Ram.
