But they still have to be great. Most of what everyone has been suggesting has been great.
Some, for 1978, more Magazine — Real Life and less Police — Outlandos d'Amour.
Not that the latter is a bad album, it's just much, much more well-known.

The Throbbing Gristle is good but maybe not something I'd listen to over and over. I have to admit I was completely thrown by the cover.
Now, the Dr. John is simply great. It reminds me of Sly Stallone's There's a Riot Goin' On in how gritty & dirty it sounds and how it draws you into its world. Not that the message is similar in those two albums.

I also listened to a little of Another Green World and Juju and liked what I heard but obviously didn't hear the entire album.

Mabuse: Nick Drake is great. I've got three of his albums. I don't have any Moby Grape, but I do have Skip Spence's Oar.

For maximum effect, Juju should be listened to in one uninterrupted sitting. While any individual song from it is great, the way it's sequenced makes it all the better.

King Crimson - Larks Tongues In Aspic
Snakefinger - Chewing Hides The Sound

I prefer Stop Making Sense, if only for the version of Psycho Killer on there, but yeah, The Name Of This Band Is Talking Heads is pretty amazing, the remastered Rhino CD set is fantastic.

Glad you dig it, just an album I love, kind of an unheard of masterpiece IMO. It's like crazy-drunk-voodoo-soul-music.

Oh god yes, Broken English is amazing. And so is For Your Pleasure by Roxy Music.

Moby Grape - one of the great unfullfilled promises of the 60s. Their debut is on of the best American albums of the late sixties and they never made anything nearly as good again. Don't miss the debut, it's incredible.

Some of my suggestions:
Neu! — Neu '75
Can — Tago Mago
Culture — Harder Than the Rest and Two Sevens Clash
Sly and the Family Stone — There's a Riot Goin' On
The Specials — The Specials
Jorge Ben — África Brasil
and
Terry Callier — Live at Mother Blues 1964

I don't know how experimental your tastes run, but the groundbreaking stuff from 'Clock DVA' still does it for me. Not sure you can even get this one any more, I have a few mp3s.
An example of their stuff:

I like that Clock DVA stuff. Too bad it's not readily available.
I got One Night Stand! and will be giving that album a listen over the weekend.
I also got Neu!'s self-titled debut and am absolutely floored by the opening track "Hallogallo":
I have Neu! '75 but nothing on there compared to this. I'm looking at expanding krautrock. I've got some of the basics (Can, Kraftwerk), but here's what I'm looking at so far:
La Dusseldorf
Tangerine Dream
Guru Guru
Harmonia
Cluster
I know there's Amon Düül but they have the worst name of any band I think I've ever heard. It seems their stuff might be a bit more... advanced. So I'll check it out later.
Anything else I'm missing?

You might look at 'Haujobb' stuff.
Maybe 'Juno Reactor'.
On Clock DVA, it is a little hard to find. I made that 'video' above.
