Def Leppard Unveils Summer Tour '09 With Cheap Trick & Poison
From billboard.com
Veteran rock act Def Leppard will return to the U.S. this summer, Billboard.com can reveal. Joining them on all 40 dates will be Poison and Cheap Trick. Live Nation will produce the tour, which begins on June 23 in Camden, N.J.
Public on-sales begin March 6. Citi Card members will have access to a ticket presale starting March 4. Venues will be announced at a later date.
“We’ll probably start rehearsing at the end of May and do a Monday to Friday thing. We like to have those be as civilized as we possibly can,” vocalist Joe Elliot tells Billboard.com. “There’s no point in leading up to the first gig and having no voice or your fingers bleeding.”
This isn’t the first time that Def Leppard has teamed with already established, iconic rock acts. In 2005, the band toured with Bryan Adams and last year had Styx and REO Speedwagon join them. Whitesnake and Journey have also shared many stages with in the past few years. But Elliot seems to thrive on packing a wallop in a shortened amount of time. “We’re going out with three bands, which limits’ the amount of time we can play to about 90 minutes. When you do your greatest hits and some new material or extra stuff you might throw in, you have got to push and shove and clamp down. No big long speeches from moi. You have to do the
AC/DC thing and just bang through everything.”
In a summer that has concert industry guessing about ticket sales, Elliot is confident that they’ll fill seats. “We’ve taken the path of least resistance, we’ve put a bill together that we think is attractive,” Elliot explains. “We saw the light in 2005 when we went out
with Bryan Adams. Once we co-headlined with him, people were hearing three hours of music and they knew every song.”
“I do realize that there are things we are destined play forever and that’s fine by me,” he continues. “Those songs are a big part of the cog. When you see the reaction of the crowd when you start the riff to 'Photograph,' there’s nothing like it. We don’t get bored the same way solo artists have to.”
During their 2008 tour in support of “Songs From The Sparkle Lounge,” Def Leppard was plagued with health issues that forced a handful of dates to be canceled. “We were playing catch up the whole year,” Elliot recalls. “I never really recovered and got rid of the illness. These last couple months have been nice - just hanging with mates and letting
all that disappear.”
In related news, this year will see re-mastered versions of the mega-hit records “Pyromania” and “Adrenalize.” Elliot hopes to have them out before the summer. Both will contain a bonus disc of material; “Pyromania” will contain never heard before live recordings and “Adrenalize” will include a collection of b-sides that never made 1993’s “Retro Active.”

I wish Cheap Trick would come and play in a local club or theater, so I would finally get to see them.

I'd love to check out this show. I haven't seen Def Lep since the "Slang" tour, but I've seen Poison and Cheap Trick in the past 5 years or so.

What are the prices (roughly) for the tickets going to be? I'm sure they will vary somewhat but I'm tryin to get an idea on what they will cost for the show in Tulsa in August.

VERY excited - I like all 3 bands. Got tix for Jones Beach this morning. I would hit one or two other cities too, but they are in the middle of the week.
Prices for most of the venues seem to be in the $125, $90, $55, $30 range.

I have only a slight desire to catch Def Leppard as I have seen them a few times a long time ago. Poison I have zero desire to see. Saw them once as a favour for a photographer who, at the last minute, needed a ride to shoot the show. I only agreed because Tesla was opening up. Poison was abolutely awful (I think it was the Open Up and Say Ah tour).
I know CT must get something out of these package shows but I just want to see them headline and not play just 5 or 6 songs.

Deluxe Editions of PYROMANIA and ADRENALIZE to be released in June
Today at 1:31pmDef Leppard, Britain's greatest arena rock band, are set to release deluxe editions of the classic albums "PYROMANIA" and "ADRENALIZE" on June 8 (UK) / June 9 (world) / June 16 (North America). The band also headline Dublin's O2 Arena on Friday the 12th June and headline the UK's Download festival on Sunday 14th June 2009.
Having sold over 65-million albums worldwide since their debut release in 1980 and proved themselves one of rock music's hardest working and consistently powerful live bands (playing to over 50 million fans in the last 15 years alone), these timely Deluxe Editions are a must for any discerning music fan. Def Leppard remain one of only five rock groups who can claim two separate original 10-million-plus selling albums in the U.S. ("PYROMANIA" being one of them). The others are The Beatles, Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd and Van Halen.
Both Deluxe Editions will feature deluxe digipak gatefold packaging with expanded booklets containing rare and previously unseen photographs, comprehensive sleeve-notes telling the story behind each album and include images of rare single covers and memorabilia from the period. Liner notes come from Rolling Stone's David Fricke.
""PYROMANIA", Def Leppard's third album originally released in 1983, was the album that took the band to the global stage. Produced by Robert "Mutt" Lange, the album sold over 10-million copies in the USA alone and spawned the huge singles "PHOTOGRAPH," "ROCK OF AGES" and "FOOLIN'." The Deluxe Edition features a remastered version of the original album and a bonus disc of a previously unreleased 15-track show from The Forum in Los Angeles in 1983. Full tracklisting follows:
DISC ONE - PYROMANIA:
1. Rock! Rock! (Til You Drop)

"ADRENALIZE, Def Leppard's fifth studio album from 1992, followed the enormous "HYSTERIA" (released in 1987) and cemented the band as the dominant Arena Rock band. The album was recorded following the tragic death of guitarist Steve Clark - with Phil Collen recording all guitar parts - and dedicated to his memory. The album featured huge singles such as "LET'S GET ROCKED" and "MAKE LOVE LIKE A MAN" and debuted at No. 1 in both the UK and USA (and went on to sell over 7-million copies worldwide). The album was produced by Def Leppard and Mike Shipley with Robert "Mutt" Lange as executive producer. The Deluxe Edition features a remastered version of the original album with a bonus disc of rare, live, acoustic and demo versions.

Def Leppard set the world alight with "PYROMANIA". And then gave rock a massive shot in the arm with "ADRENALIZE". Together, these are a masterclass in melodic hard rock. Now get both with bonus tracks in expanded formats. Two amazing albums. From one great band.

I saw Dokken/Poison last summer. NOT a Poison fan by any stretch of the imagination. They were fucking terrible (the fact that I hate their music probably didn't help). However, the amount of sheer female talent at that show was mindblowing.
Dokken was good though, even though Don looks about 60 and the guitarist made me miss George Lynch.
