Oh well... no matter what, this can't be as bad as "Chinese Democracy".
I think you should expect more varied music from a band that's been around as long as Green Day. If that takes the form of slower tempo songs I'm all for it as long as the quality is there. From what I've heard so far, it is. Two of their biggest hits are ballads. The band's that inspired Green Day like the Clash and Husker Du didn't just do hardcore punk.

Some of Husker Du's best songs are ballads. But ballads should be the exception, not the norm.

(and I can't really stand the Clash after their first 2 albums)

Since you care about my opinion so much: I think it was kind of "ok". Had a bunch of boring clunkers on it.

Just because the masses think an album or band is a "classic", doesn't mean I have to agree and/or like it.

If anyone cares to listen to the entire album for free (legally) they can visit this link:

THANKS!

Great album! Even the slow songs (with a couple exceptions). Flows really well. Not as derivative as "American Idiot" (though I think I like AI better). It's a very worthy follow up to AI and should do really well. Feels like a "real" concept album (though the message is very naive). Right now this is the leader for "album of the year" unless the Jim Jones Revue or the Hellacopters put something out this year.

Can't wait to see them this tour.

Re: Green Day: 21st Century Breakdown - May 2009

I have the whole album already in my iPod. I am in so in love. Of course I'm biased, since they've been my favorite band since 1994.

Last Night on Earth is a slow song, and it is so amazing (but then again, I am a sap). It reminds me of the releationship that Billie Joe has with his wife, Adrienne.

It's almost 3AM here, and I've played the album through about 10 times already.

With past history that didn't take long. 21st Century Breakdown or Dream Police.

Re: Green Day: 21st Century Breakdown - May 2009

FYI, Rhapsody has "Know Your Enemy" for free download today(credit to Kingebo at SD).

http://mp3.rhapsody.com/playlistdeta...d=ply.25288413

In addition, they also have free downloads of Hitchin a Ride, Minority, American Idiot(the single), and Tired of Waiting for You. You'll have to search for them, but the price comes up as zero.

Also, you don't have to download Rhapsody's downloader, you can just get them as zip files.

Me likes Green Day of late. This album is like part II of American Idiot in sound. No complaints at all.

Target's ad is still lists this on Tuesday. Any chance of that happening or will the computers block the sale?

Not sure what you're talking about, as the ad in the Bargains forum specifically says it is coming out on Friday.

http://forum.dvdtalk.com/dvd-bargain...y-10-16-a.html

Also, Target will have a bonus edition for 13.99 with 6 extra unreleased songs recorded live in Japan.

A store near me had this on the shelf today so I bought one before they realize they jumped the gun. I really love this record, it's fantastic.

Re: Green Day: 21st Century Breakdown - May 2009

I've listened to it through once or twice. Great album, but I think it'll grow on me the more I listen. The title song and 21 guns were the main standouts so far.

Re: Green Day: 21st Century Breakdown - May 2009

People who preordered online already got theirs in the mail.

I bought the special edition with the vinyls and CD. But I'm going to Best Buy on Friday to pick up the book edition like they had for American Idiot. For Green Day, I usually end up buying a few copies of the same album.

They have the book SE I was talking about at Target

http://www.target.com/21st-Century-B...n%20day&page=2

It's more expensive there though, it's only $16.99 at Best Buy.

Yeah, we discussed that on my forum. But most of us decided this wasn't the best edition to buy. I have a ton of live tracks anyway.

Re: Green Day: 21st Century Breakdown - May 2009

Been listening to this for the last 5 days. Have to say this is an incredible album. 18 songs and about 90% are excellent. I'd never have thought they could follow AI with something this good. One of the few albums I've heard in the last decade that is great from the first cut to the last.

Awesome album. I hope people don't get turned off by the single they released. I think Know your enemy is probably the worst song on the album and a lot of people that I know who are casual Green Day fans thought it was a terrible song (not terrible as much as just plain repetitive). There are at least 8 songs I would have released before that song.

Yes, most of the fans that visit my site don't like Know Your Enemy. I like it though. Seems like the popular choice for the next single (by a poll on my forum anyway) is East Jesus Nowhere. I personally think 21 Guns should be next.

I've decided to pick up the Target edition tomorrow....and the 52 page book at Best Buy...maybe even the regular one (since they are giving away free lithographs at local record stores). I already have the special edition with the 3 vinyls ordered and paid for ($100 bucks geez), so with that they'll send me a download at midnight tonight. Doesn't matter, I have all the tracks on my computer.

Listened to it twice now. I like it, but I think it's probably their least consistent album to date. "21 Guns" may go down as the worst song they've ever written.

Wow I think it's a great song with a very catchy melody. Sure you aren't just reacting to the fact that it doesn't sound like typical Green Day? Hard for me to fathom why someone would hate this song.

Re: Green Day: 21st Century Breakdown - May 2009

21 Guns is one of my favorite songs on the album! It describes my friend's life (and the loss she had when a friend died)....she cried when she heard it...but Billie Joe said it's a song about surrendering.
