Billy Powell dies.

Billy Powell keyboardist for Lynyrd Skynyrd died early Wednesday morning of a apparent heart attack.
Another setback for the band that has a history of setbacks over the years.
Sorry to hear of the bad news. RIP..

I'll have to pick up some Rossington Collins cd's, if they're available, in his honor.
I have all of his Lynyrd Skynyrd cd's.
In the meantime, I'll be digging out Second Helping to play a few tunes in his honor.

RIP :(

I was just listening to Another One From the Road yesterday. Might have to pop in some Pronounced or Second Helping later.

"Sweet Home Alabama" Play that dead band's song. Turn those speakers up full blast. Play it all night long" - Warren Zevon

That's a shame. Rest in peace.

If you can't find any Rossington Collins CDs just pick up Solo Flytes (AMAZON has it used for $8).
It has a dozen songs on there by them and it's pretty good for the $3 I paid for it at the flea market.

:rip: We all know what song is getting played at his funeral. ;)

I hate to say it, but this isn't all that surprising. Powell put on a lot of weight over the years and that can be hard on your heart.

That doesn't make it any less of a loss or any less sad. This is horribly disappointing as he was one of Skynyrd's unsung musical heroes.

Powell's keyboard playing was outstanding. He played with passion and flair and really had a signature style. The ironic thing was that over the last few years I've seen live Skynyrd shows on TV and paid close attention to his piano playing and REALLY loved it. It was a revelation to actually watch him play. It seemed so effortless for him, and everything that came out sounded just right - absolutely perfect for the songs he was playing.

He will be missed. So much so that I have to wonder what this means for the future of Skynyrd.
