I'm going with Sean and state that this film was mis-marketed. It's actually a very clever film with some sly comments on our culture of conformity and consumerism. I ignored it when it first came out, only watching it after writer Dan Vebber compared it to Buffy the Vampire Slayer TV show, in that they're both properties that are cleverer than their titles initially suggest.
