If you don't know who Jeff Beck is, his wide-ranging influence over generation of guitar players, his work with The Yardbirds, Rod Stewart, his fusion albums, his easily-earned place in the upper echelons of the greatest guitarists in music history, one who is ranked up there with Clapton, Page, Hendrix, Allman, etc., then you really shouldn't criticize. He's not well known to non- or casual-music fans, but to those who know the history of music and rock, he's beyond legendary.
Although he's got to stop wearing those fruity boots.

Isn't he kinda the Paris Hilton of rock music? Famous for being famous, and being mentioned.

So then why does he get mentioned all the time on radio stations, magazines, etc. etc. but his music never get played on those stations? that is what I don't get. The classic rock station here in NY will ALWAYS mention Jeff Beck. They will even mention his concerts when he tours. But why do they NEVER play ANY of his songs? I don't get that.
And I'm not anti-Jeff Beck. based on what I heard the other night I probably would like some of his stuff if I had ever heard it. I just usually don't fall into the category of somebody that is going to go buy a CD without hearing some of it first.

This would be Beck's second induction right? Once before as a Yardbirds member. His solo stuff isn't very commercial, not even for FM rock. Deep tracks kinda stuff. It's sort of like inducting Jimmy Page as a solo artist. He's on hundreds of 60's singles as a session guy, member of a huge band, member of a band that's pretty good but kinda forgotten, and all kinds of misc. stuff here and there. But there are no Jimmy Page hit songs. There are lots of musicians and singers who have floated around with this band and that and done various one-shots and other misc. stuff but never been a commercial success as a strictly solo artist. Doesn't make them any less well known, influential or legendary. Paul Rodgers, Carmine Appice are a couple that come to mind.

Yeah, but unlike Jimmy Page, Jeff Beck's solo work is actually influential in its own right.
As for why Beck's music doesn't get played on the radio, that has more to do with radio politics and the need for more ad space than any indicator of quality.

p.s. Way to go James Hetfield for mentioning Kiss, Deep Purple, Thin Lizzy, Rush, Ted Nugent, Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, Motorhead and Alice Cooper.
