Preordered the Super Deluxe Edition as soon as I got home today!

Two big things I am wondering about this release though:
1. Which version of "Brother" will end up on the remixed disc? I read a story on Yahoo that it will be a version with vocals, but I wonder if it will be the one from the "Rough Mixes" or the one from the "Rarities Unreleased Cuts" (these are two bootleg titles, if anyone is curious as to what I am referring to...)
2. Will the Unplugged disc be the WHOLE show, or still edited? They mention the unaired "Oceans", but they also did "Rockin In The Free World" which was also not aired (but has since been available on the complete show bootleg videos and DVDs....)

As my username indicates, this is my favorite band, and the fact that they state this is just the beginning of two years worth of deluxe reissues has me STOKED!!!

Now why didn't they release this on October 10th, 2010?

Considering the anti-commercial stance PJ has taken throughout most of their career, it's kind of surprising to see them make such a naked cash-grab.

That said, I might be in for the big tricked out set... though $140 seems excessive. Will need to give this matter consideration...

Wow, their website re-design is very different. They also have a lot less merchandise available these days. I just happened to make an order two weeks ago and picked up two fresh copies of my favorite t-shirts - the Green Disease king skull and the bird's nest - and now they're not available anymore forever. Lucky me!

No kidding.

The unlplugged DVD is a nice inclusion, but how about a CD equivalent?

If shipping is free, then the actual cost of the set is more like $120 + 20 shipping. There, don't you feel better about shelling out $140?

As an aside, everytime I open this thread and see the complete set, I think about how awesome it looks.

That's what I want to know. I don't really want to pay for this 3 months before release.

Thanks. I think it is dumb - I can't spend $140 on myself just before Christmas, so I doubt I'll end up getting the mega set. I'm sure they'll sell out.

I don't really mind paying whatever price they ask. To me, 3 CDs = $45, DVD = $15, 4 LPS = $50, other crap = $30.

Broken down that way, I think it's a very fair price.

BUT, I really don't think it's cool to ask your rabid fan base to finance your album pressing when you are one of the biggest bands in the world. Take a $50 deposit if you need to know how many to make.

Taking your money now insures that you won't be able to smoke it all away by the time the pre-orders are ready to ship.

Grungy potheads...

You're not paying to finance the pressing. Like any other limited edition item, you are guaranteeing yourself a copy by paying at the time of checkout. NIN did the same with their limited editions of "Ghosts". It makes perfect sense. Say Pearl Jam presses 10,000 (I have no idea how many are being pressed. Just throwing a number out there to make this easy). Come March when they are to ship, they discover that 10% can't pay for it. What do they do then? Re-sell 1000 copies online, advertising it as restocked after it has been listed as sold out for months? Like anything limited edition, it is first come, first serve. And to guarantee you are one of those served, you pay for it. Pretty simple.

I just hope they put as much effort into the other re-releases (Vinyl, demos, etc.) If they do, they can charge my credit card however early they want.

I doubt they would have a problem unloading these if 10% canceled. Next to Nevermind & Metallica's self titled album it is probably one of the top 3 seminal albums of the 90's.

I'll wait to hear how the remastering sounds but I imagine I'll be picking up the regular edition.

No high res version on sacd or dvd-audio makes this entire thing worthless.

You can download (for absolutely free) the complete, uncut Unplugged performance (and even the soundcheck) from a virtually flawless digital soundboard DAT from multiple PJ sites....

So while a pressed CD might be nice, it's really not necessary...however a DVD created from the master videotapes and remixed into 5.1 IS needed, as the current best DVDs out there are sourced from a slightly generated copy and include the constant onscreen timecode....

I know, it would look real nice next to your Laserdisc player and Neo Geo systems.

... Meanwhile, Pearl Jam will jump into "Rock Band" in a big way on March 24, the same date its 1991 debut album, "Ten," will be reissued in expanded form by Epic/Legacy. The entire album will be available for download through "Rock Band"; the "Ten" track "Alive was previously released on the "Rock Band 2" game disc.
