Creed to do a reunion tour in 2009

Creed Hammering Out Reunion Details
As first tipped here last month, Creed is hammering out details for a lucrative 2009 reunion tour, sources tell Billboard. The Scott Stapp-led group, which was one of the top sellers of the past decade, has not performed since a rancorous split in June 2004.

Stapp promptly embarked on a solo career, while guitarist Mark Tremonti, drummer Scott Phillips and original bassist Brian Marshall formed Alter Bridge with vocalist Myles Kennedy and released two albums. The 2004 Wind-Up debut, "One Day Remains," sold 496,000 copies in the United States, according to Nielsen SoundScan; a 2006 follow-up for Universal, "Blackbird," has moved 227,000.

However, Kennedy is rumored to be the top contender to replace Robert Plant for a tour with Led Zeppelin's Jimmy Page and John Paul Jones. And following a recent USO tour performing for American servicemen oversees, Stapp is said to be in prime physical and mental condition.

As such, there are "significant dollars" on the table for a Creed trek, according to sources close to the situation, who say an official announcement could be imminent. A spokesperson for Wind-Up tells Billboard, "There have been some talks, but it would be premature to comment on them at this time."

Creed has sold 26.1 million albums in the United States since 1997, according to Nielsen SoundScan. The group was also a significant touring presence, having grossed more than $70.3 million from 220 shows reported to Billboard Boxscore between Nov. 1997 and Dec. 2002.

Liked both groups, even a few songs off of Stapp's solo record haha... so wouldn't mind seeing a tour and/or new material. Never really understood the backlash...

The only thing I have to say is that I own records from both Creed and Alter Bridge because Mark Tremonti is one of the best guitarists of the past 10 years.

Re: Creed to do a reunion tour in 2009

People are nostalgic for the aughts now?

I will come out of the closet and admit I had the CDs for Human Clay, My Own Prison, and Weathered was in constant rotation in 2001 and 2002.

A 2 CD deluxe editon of Human Clay is coming in August.

Creed is right in the middle of mounting an incredible comeback—the kind rarely seen in the rock world. The once-beloved band seemed to disappear for a decade during a hiatus, but now that they’re back, the group is becoming more popular than they’ve been in a long, long time. As they play live once more and reach countless fans, both new and old, the group returns to the Billboard charts–several of them.

The term “butt-rock” and often criticized for its earnest, quasi-preachy style, is experiencing an unforeseen resurgence. Propelled into the spotlight with the Texas Rangers adopting “Higher” as their 2023 World Series anthem, a nod from SZA, and a feature in a 2024 Super Bowl commercial, Creed is rewriting its legacy. Singer Scott Stapp reflects on this revival, emphasizing the broad spectrum of new fans, from those loyal since the ’90s to a younger generation just discovering their sound.

This week, Creed appears on four Billboard charts. They reach each of the quartet of lists with their Greatest Hits compilation album.

The fact that Creed’s Greatest Hits is present on four different Billboard tallies in 2024 is worthy of noting. What’s even more impressive is the fact that the set reappears on three of them after not being present last time around… and for quite some time when it comes to some of the lists.

Creed’s Greatest Hits breaks onto the Billboard 200 this frame, but only just barely. The compilation lands at No. 191 on the 200-spot ranking of the most-consumed albums in the country.

Creed is getting ready to embark on their forthcoming 2024 Summer of ’99 Tour. That 40-date trek begins in July and takes the recently-reunited group all around the country. The band also just headlined a cruise, which was filled with similar rock bands from their initial era of popularity. This comeback may just be beginning, and the members of Creed are likely plotting more shows, and perhaps more music as well.

You go from saying Justin Timberlake should have been arrested for making shitty and boring music to posting Creed videos?

Creed is such a maligned band, much like Nickleback. Fuck man, they had some real bangers.

Dude, you are the king poster of tween girl teeny-bopper music here. Criticism on music is not your strong suit.

But same could be said about me with my unadorned love of KISS and Lou Christie.

Taylor Swift is a critical darling. She’s won a record four Album of the Year Grammys. You might not like her music, that’s fine, but it is music widely embraced by both critics and the public at large.
Creed is absolutely critically reviled. Spin lists them as the #4 most-hated artist is pop history, behind only Kenny G, Limp Bizkit and Milli Vanilli.

I have no idea who Lou Christie is.

I don't see the Nostalgia for Creed when Alterbridge is so much better as a group.

Creed is better than TImbercrap.

I had maybe one thread with teen pop but I like Sabbath, Pantera, Sepultura, Soulfly, Van Halen, Ozzy, Godsmack, and other manly groups so that gives me a pass

Yeah Alterbridge is great. Saw them live once and they blew the crowd away.
