I'm in.

dhmac 11-28-08 11:52 AM

I have a good mix that I just created that I'll use for this project.

orangecrush 11-28-08 03:49 PM

PM sent Bus

Cosmic Bus 11-29-08 08:28 AM

Uploaded mine and set the link along to Bus. Here's the cover:

Although I do enjoy some light design in Photoshop, making a cover is pretty simple if you aren't very familiar with imaging programs. Just find an image you like (flickr is always a good place to search) then resize and add your text in one of the free editors like Irfanview.

The Bus 11-29-08 10:31 AM

Awesome cover Cosmic!

I'll be checking PMs and/or sending the first link with info early this week (Mon-Wed).

Since there's no mailing involved, I don't think we need to limit this to a certain number of people.

GatorDeb 11-29-08 02:36 PM

The Bus can I send you my mix for a cover? Thanks! :D My burning in iTunes is not working (and haven't had the time to fix it)... 34 songs should fit 2 CDs right? I used to have 19 songs per CD if I remember correctly.

The Bus 11-29-08 07:45 PM

CDs are normally 74 minutes long, although some are 80. Don't go by songs since that could be troublesome. Bitches Brew is 2 discs and has 6 tracks.

GatorDeb 11-29-08 08:28 PM

Awesome mine is 138 minutes long so that will fit on 2 CDs.

Can I just put mine without a cover, track listing, or liner notes, or that is required? I'm not good at making CD inserts.

The Bus 11-29-08 08:50 PM

Just send it on in.

Rypro 525 11-29-08 08:52 PM

yeah i think he said that he is gonna make a cover based on what he feels what the music says.

wishbone 11-30-08 07:22 AM

Givin' it a shot, PM sent to The Bus.

GatorDeb 11-30-08 12:26 PM

PMd :D

Ghostface180 11-30-08 02:50 PM

If there's another spot open, I'd like to do one

Shiv Shankly 12-01-08 09:15 AM

The first time provided some interesting stuff, so I'll do it again.

spainlinx0 12-01-08 09:38 AM

Are people who aren't making CDs allowed to listen to other peoples' mixtapes? I'm looking to start getting into more music as I guess my tastes are pretty mainstream so I was hoping to be able to check out the stuff here.

whaaat 12-01-08 10:20 AM

I recorded my mixes over the weekend, I just need to cut them up into individual tracks, etc...

What bitrate of mp3 are people using?

Rypro 525 12-01-08 10:31 AM

i did mine at a variety of bitrates (cause i was too lazy to put them all at one consistant bitrate)

Why not make a mix? I listen to very little "mainstream" music so I might discover something on your mix that I never would have considered.

If it is not too late, I would like to get in on this...but I do have a question or two:

1. When you say mixtape, do you mean it as, here take a bunch of songs from different spots and make a compilation out of them...or do you mean like a DJ mix, where stuff blends together and even mash up?

2. In terms of the disc, if it is a standard audio CD, it would be 74 mins, but if it is an MP3 disc, it would be longer, since it is based on file size. Can you clarify.

Thanks

1.a bunch of random songs (or if you can think of a theme or genre, no dj type stuff.

2. Most blank cd's can hold 79 minutes, and i think thats what he wants.

The Bus 12-01-08 08:33 PM

Certainly, if you're advanced enough to be able to make a DJ mix, go for it. I may do it only because I will edit some songs for length, but at most I'll be using SoundForge to cut the tracks. No fancy-schamncy Vegas / Cakewalk type work. I stopped doing that in college.

I meant ideally something that, in time, will fill a CD. So, ideally, 73:59 or less, or 79:59 or less, if you buy the 80-minute CDs.

orangecrush 12-01-08 10:48 PM

The mix doesn't have to be the full 80 minutes though. I sometimes think a shorter mix is better in that no songs get lost in the shuffle.

Giles 12-01-08 10:54 PM

gripe - why is this done during the busiest month for me... December?? Is it too late to join?? (I say this tepidly)

The Bus 12-02-08 07:50 AM

It's not too late to join.

Tips & Tricks:

When you PM me, please include an email where I can send you more information along with your mix, a download URL, and a title (if applicable).

If you can, try not to use Rapidshare, as it limits downloads by users. Other options include divshare, megaupload, zshare, and sendspace.

DJLinus 12-02-08 08:07 AM

I'll get on my mix after this week, which is consumed with the Christmas mix I make for friends and family. But, if anyone wants some Yule tunes, I could upload that as my mix.

Also, can anyone point me to where I can get a good free program for XP that edits ID3 tags (including embedding artwork in a file)? I usually do it through iTunes, but for mixes like this, all the songs should have the same album title and such. I don't really want to mess with changing around my iTunes, though.
