R.I.P Mitch Mitchell (Jimi Hendrix Experience drummer)

KGW.com reports that THE JIMI HENDRIX EXPERIENCE's drummer Mitch Mitchell was found dead in a downtown Portland hotel Wednesday.

The Multnomah County Medical Examiner's office said 62-year-old Mitch Mitchell likely died of natural causes. His body was found just after 3 a.m. at the Benson Hotel.

An autopsy was scheduled for Wednesday.

Mitchell had been playing with the Experience Hendrix tour that just made a stop in Portland at the Schnitz last Friday.

Sad that now none of the original members are alive anymore. I think the bassist died a few years ago. Great drummer too.

Yeah, I just found that out on Yahoo website. Sad news. :(

Looks like this time he really is dead...

...and by that, I'm referring to a time years ago on MTV, when I would have sworn on anything in this world I cherished that Kurt Loder came on and said that Mitch Mitchell, former drummer for the Jimi Hendrix Experience, had passed away. I can't remember if Noel Redding had passed away at that time or not, but their names are distinctive enough that I don't think I would have mistaken one for the other. And for years after that, I've never been able to find any reference to that news report.

Anyway, sad to hear. The final part of a a great, truly influential band, gone from this world. Thanks for the music, Mitch. RIP

Mitch was one hell of a great drummer. I've always wondered why he couldn't land a really good gig after Hendrix.

Very sad. Only 62? Somehow I'm not all that surprised. That band (the Experience) just seems to have had a black cloud hanging over them - and Noel and Mitch couldn't shake it.

But this is definitely some very sad news.

Terrible news. A friend of mine was supposed to have seen the Experience Hendrix show at the Greek Theater a few days ago. I need to check with him and see how it was.

It didn't last long but The Dirty Mac was one hell of a gig.
