Yeah, I took my wife to see them on the tour when they got into trouble with conservative America. I bought 16th row floor tickets secondhand for like half of face value. It was awesome. A lot of scalpers lost a lot of money on that tour, lol. Don't think we'll be seeing them again this tour. That was good enough for me.

Maines was right. Bush and Cheney were lying to the American people to justify the war in Iraq, which turned out to be a disaster. They should call this comeback the "I TOLD YOU SO" Tour. If anyone ever brings up the events of the 2003 with Maines, she should be as smug and arrogant as she can possibly be about letting people know that she was absolutely right, and every person that ever criticized The Dixie Chicks was (at best) an idiot.
She never said any of those things. You must be projecting what you wish she said.

Re: What happened to the Dixie Chicks?

While not much of a country music fan, I always have liked the Dixie Chicks. Well, I have been missing the Dixie Chicks for a while now, I just happened to stumble across a story that they were well into production of their next album Gaslighter, their first album of original music since the multi-Grammy winning Taking The Long Way all the way back in 2006.
(They released a live album from their last tour in 2018).

They have now released two singles from the new album, which is delayed from its original 5/1/20 date due to the COVID quarantine.

The first single, the title track "Gaslighter" isn't political as you might think. It's a very direct personal song about Natalie Maine's ugly divorce from her ex Adrian Pasdar who tried to get $60,000/mo in support and attempted to block the release of Dixie Chicks music. It understandably pissed off Natalie, and you don't want to piss off Natalie.

The second single, released on Friday, is a more uplifting track called "Julianna Calm Down", which uses the names of all the gal's daughters and gives them encouragement in difficult times. It's not super-catchy, but it's sweet.

Re: What happened to the Dixie Chicks?

They’re officially just The Chicks now. Didn’t realize the word “Dixie” was offensive to anyone, but it was prominently featured in Battle Hymn of the Republic.

Anyway, New song for BLM

You're right. They should change their name to "The"

Re: What happened to the Dixie Chicks?

"The Chicks" is a horrible name (whether you find "chicks" offensive or not).

Couldn't they have just found another word to replace "Dixie"? They're from Dallas... so The Dallas Chicks? Texas Chicks? Southern Chicks?
I'm sure someone can come up with a really good replacement name.

That could appeal to the trans community.

It's not a bad song... and the video is pretty damn powerful.

In extremely similar news, a couple of weeks ago Lady Antebellum changed their name to Lady A.

Da fuq?

Mine eyes have seen the glory of the coming of the Lord
He is trampling out the vintage where the grapes of wrath are stored
He hath loosed the fateful lightning of His terrible swift sword
His truth is marching on, His truth is marching
Glory, glory, Hallelujah! Glory, glory, Hallelujah!
Glory, glory, Hallelujah! His truth is marching on
I have seen Him in the watch fires of a hundred circling camps
They have builded Him an altar in the evening dews and damps
I can read His righteous sentence by the dim and flaring lamps
His day is marching on
Hallelujah, Hallelujah!
In the beauty of the lilies, Christ was born across the sea
With a glory in His bosom that transfigures you and me
As He died to make men holy, let us live to make men free
While God is marching on
Glory, glory, Hallelujah! Glory, glory, Hallelujah!
Glory, glory, Hallelujah! His truth is marching on!
His truth is marching on! And on and on and on and on and on
Mayhaps you are thinking of An American Trilogy?

Shit, I mean I Wish I Was in the Land of Dixie. Got my old racist southern songs mixed up. Sorry, not my area of expertise.
The Confederate flag is called Old Dixie, though right?

The Battle Hymn of the Republican is not an old racist southern song. Would you like a third try?

As far as the three country musicians, clearly they weren’t the least bit serious about themselves when they named themselves chicks from Dixie. They’ve clearly become far too serious about themselves over the years. But in a way they definitely validate people like me who thought their early stuff was wretched and immature. Party music for dumb, drunk city girls.

Re: What happened to the Dixie Chicks?

Elvis Presley - An American Trilogy has the line I wish I was in Dixie and several references about "Dixie Land."

Re: What happened to the Dixie Chicks?

I actually know a woman with the first name Dixie. Haven’t talked to her in a number of years so I don’t know how she feels about the recent attention to that word, but I have to imagine it’s rather strange.

One of my best friends has the last name Hittler, so a slightly different spelling than the notorious one, but that has still got to be a strange name to have.

When I joined a new group, one of the guys was named Tim McVey. I was like "oh my what a name to have", but no one really seemed to know what I was talking about. I guess I'm officially old.

Nobody cares about them no one is going to care about The Chicks either...can't let a good issue go to waste to try to drum up interest in a band no one give a fuck about.

I give a fuck about them. I think they're very talented musicians and gifted songwriters. And I doubt I am the only one who does.

No. The first Confederate flag (which doesn't contain the infamous battle flag) was the Stars and Bars. The second flag - which had the battle flag on a white field - was called the Stainless Banner. Because the Stainless Flag was mostly white, and could be mistaken for a surrender flag in cases of low\no wind, a red bar was added, making it the Blood-Stained Banner. The infamous "battle flag" was never, at any point, the national flag. It started as the battle flag of the Army of Northern Virginia (square) and was used as the second Confederate naval ensign (as a rectangle).

The term "Dixie" predates the Civil War by several decades (although the song was from 1859). No one is entirely sure where the name comes from. The most likely source is "Dixie" being derived from Jeremiah Dixon, one of the surveyors of the Mason–Dixon line. Another, less likely, possibility is that it refers to notes issued by the Citizens State Bank of New Orleans. Being French, the $10 notes said "Dix" on them, and the area immediately around New Orleans became known as "Dixieland", which later expanded to the entire South.

Re: What happened to the Dixie Chicks?

They think changing their names make them look important when no one has cared about them since the Bush Years.

No. It was pro Union. Union troops use to sing it during the Civil War. The tune is based on John Brown’s Body.
