While this may be true, Broadway was not released as a single until 1999, and it peaked on the Billboard Hot 100 in 2000 (at No.24), therefore I consider it a song from 2000, which was the year the song was at its greatest height on radio (and when I first heard it).

Gnarls Barkley - "Crazy"
Elliott Smith - "Junk Bond Trader"
Franz Ferdinand - "Eleanor Put Your Boots On"
Bloc Party - "Helicopter"
Radiohead - "You and Whose Army?"
The Raveonettes - "Love In a Trashcan"
Black Keys - "Your Touch"
Black Rebel Motorcycle Club - "Love Burns"

ETA: I can't limit myself to just 10.

The Arctic Monkeys - "Mardy Bum"
The Strokes - "NYC Cops"
I love that list...I would change two songs on it though:

The White Stripes - Conquest (a cover, but an amazing one) or The White Stripes - Dead Leaves On The Dirty Ground

The Black Keys - The Length (The reason for that one is, it is such a curveball by the band and it really stands out more so than any other songs they have done)

I know. I think music really went downhill since 2004 when they invented the "single"...

I didn't hear "Rocky Raccoon" until 2001. Doesn't make it a song from this decade.

According to my iTunes "playcount" (which only counts what I've played on my iPod):

TV on the Radio — "Wolf Like Me" from Return to Cookie Mountain
Junior Boys — "In the Morning" from So This is Goodbye
Amadou & Mariam — "Coulibaly" from Dimanche à Bamako
Ladytron — "White Light Generator" from Witching Hour
Caesars — "Jerk It Out" from Paper Tigers
Moby — "Extreme Ways" from 18 ( I think I just listened to this a lot when the third Bourne movie came out, it's not that good of a song)
The Roots & Cody Chestnutt — "The Seed 2.0" from Phrenology
Pixeltan — "Get Up / Say What" from DFA Records Compilation
Fabolous — "Breathe" from Real Talk
Annie — "Chewing Gum" from Anniemal

This list is a bit skewed because it's only stuff on my iPod which I listen to only when I'm driving or when I'm working out.

<hr>

Last.fm / Audioscrobbler says:

Coldplay — "Talk" from X&Y
Blink-182 — "I Miss You" from blink-182
Vampire Weekend — "Walcott" from Vampire Weekend
Clap Your Hands Say Yeah — "In this Home on Ice" from Clap Your Hands Say Yeah
Asuka Sakai & Charlie Kosei — "Que Sera, Sera" from Katamari Damacy
Islands — "Tsuxiit" from Return to the Sea
Thom Yorke — "Harrowdown Hill" from The Eraser
The Walkmen — "The Rat" from Bows + Arrows
Esau Mwamwaya — "Chalo (Demo)"
Madvillain — "Fancy Clown" from Madvillainy

I'll post later what my top 10 are...

The list is "Top 10 Songs of the 2000s" not the "Top 10 Most Pretencious Songs of the 2000s" people.

Yeah, I'm assuming he is referring to someone's list. I think by "pretencious" he actually means, "songs/bands I have never heard of, so they must be pretencious". While I don't agree w/ most of these lists (I still think mine is the best I don't think anyone's list is pretencious at all). Radio/MTV etc don't play good songs, so I think the fact that a lot of people are naming, not neccesarily popular songs is a sign of good taste here.

I actually think that a lot of the popular stuff (Kanye West, for example) that gets radio play is far more pretentious than most of the obscure bands named in this thread.

Well Mr. Bus, if that is your real name, not only are most of the songs people have posted have never been heard by anyone, but most people have never hear of any of these bands.

Where is Fergie? Where's Daughtry? Where I ask?

I understand you want more mainstream selections (my two certainly were), but even then Fergie doesn't belong IMHO. Popular and good are two different things.
