if you want to hear good GNR type rock, listen to the album version of What I Want on Daughtry's first album. Slash is playing guitars on that one. I DVR's Soundstage on Palladia and without Slash they butchered the song.

I don't get it...what is the issue here? I thought Axl ALWAYS starts the shows really late....how is this now "news"?? I saw GNR in 2006 at Baltimore, and they didn't start until after 11:00pm....this is pretty much always their standard operating procedure, funny they would bring it up as if it was something out of the ordinary now.....

Its prob since the band is doing 3 hour plus sets and with him coming out overtly late, and there is a curfew, they gotta cut songs

Re: GUNS N' ROSES: "Chinese Democracy" -11/23/08

Oh Axl
Axl Rose angered thousands of fans at a recent Guns N' Roses concert in Dublin, Ireland by showing up nearly an hour late and then walking off the stage after several members of the crowd hurled bottles and other objects at the band.

"Ok, here's the deal. One more bottle, we go home," Rose said after the rock band stopped playing their second song - their 1987 hit "Welcome to the Jungle" - moments after starting, while another person on his hands and knees cleaned the floor around him.

"It's up to you," Rose said. "We want to stay, we want to have some fun. If you don't want to have fun, all you got to do is let us know, we got no problem. We'll go on our way."

The crowd continued to boo and swear at the band and Rose eventually left the stage of the O2 arena, saying: "Have a good evening."

An announcer later said: "We're trying hard to get Axl back on stage. I would ask you please to refrain from throwing items at him."

The band returned to the stage about an hour later to a mostly empty venue and didn't stop playing until nearly 1 a.m., the Associated Press said, adding that concert promoters and the venue issued a joint statement criticizing Rose for having "a long history for being late on stage," but emphasized that "no artist should be subjected to missiles and unknown substances being thrown at them."

The band has not commented. Guns N' Roses became famous in the 1980s and 1990s and Rose is the only original band member. Guitarist Slash and drummer Steven Adler have since quit or had been forced to leave the group amid drug issues and legal disputes.

The band has been touring Asia, Canada, South America, Central America and Europe since the group released its 2009 album, Chinese Democracy, which was not touted as one of their bigger successes.

Guns N' Roses gaves its first official U.S. concert in four years on Friday at the Rock N' Rev Festival, part of the Sturgis Rally's 70th anniversary celebration in Sturgis, South Dakota. Guns N' Roses performed several secret shows during New York's Fashion Week earlier this year, Rolling Stone had said. The group is set to return to perform a series of concerts in Europe at the end of August.

I can see being upset at the band being late but a) Axl has a history of being late (and in some cases a lot later than just an hour) and b) throwing shit at the band isn't necessary. I'd be pissed off too if I was him.

I would NEVER put money in this man's pocket...

They recently headlined at a couple of linked UK festivals and were late at both which meant that, at one, the sound had to be turned off before the set was complete in order to comply with local byelaws about excessive noise after an agreed hour.

In both instances Axl blamed the promoter for the debacle.

Fan reports posted online regarding the performance quality at the gigs were mostly negative.

It strikes me that, at some point, surely both mainstream promoters and most fans are going to give up - which at least should leave Mr Rose free to seek whatever treatment is required for his longstanding malady. Or not.

Re: GUNS N' ROSES: "Chinese Democracy" -11/23/08

I will never understand why bands/performers are often late to start a show. I can understand 5 or 10 minutes, but an hour or two? There'll be some circumstances beyond their control and it happens, but it seems to happen way too often.

With that said, I don't understand the mentality of the fans. Throwing stuff on stage is just stupid. If you don't like the act then leave. If you're pissed at them starting late - that must mean you really wanted to see the act, so why do something that'll force them to leave if you wanted to see them in the first place? Better to watch a show that's an hour late than to waste your money/time and not see a show at all.

Re: GUNS N' ROSES: "Chinese Democracy" -11/23/08

I could give Axl a pass if he was late once or twice. But he is consistently late! He was well over an hour late when I saw GnR open for the Stones in '89! What a complete disregard for a band like the Stones. It's obvious he's late on purpose (even Slash & the other guys will tell you that).

I certainly hope that any promoter who books GnR has a clause in the contract saying that Axl will pay any fines & union overtime for the venue breaking curfew because of him being late.

Seemed like that audience didn't even like the band. When he asked if they wanted them to continue most of the crowd yelled no. Maybe they all got free tickets.

Although I never understood why bands are late to their own concerts, but I don't understand either why assholes go to concerts to throw stuff at the band. How big of an imbecile and tool you have to be to go to a concert wait for the band to start and then start throwing shit at them?

Re: GUNS N' ROSES: "Chinese Democracy" -11/23/08

The only reason a band would be late to a show is flight or bus delays. It takes all day to set up a stage and the band does their sound check in the early evening, has dinner and goes on after. This is just bullshit pretentious posturing by Rose.

Re: GUNS N' ROSES: "Chinese Democracy" -11/23/08

I remeber going to see guns and roses with soundgarden at the san diego sports areana on the use your illusion tour and the ticket said.. show starts stometime around 9.. soundgarden came on at 9.. i'm not sure what time guns came on but i'm pretty sure it was close to 2 hours after soundgarden finished the set.. they made time fly by having a camera going around the areana ala girls gone wild and have them flash.

I was in high school at the time.. i got a ride from my dad to the show but had to take the bus back home.. I missed the last bus.. had to wait till 5am to catch the next bus.. it sucked but it didn't matter.. i just saw guns and fuckin roses live! but it would probably piss me off now.

You couldn't pay me $199 to listen to that album again. Seriously. I mean, I could try to listen to it for that price, but I'd probably fail. Truly awful.

It's better than the rest of the GnR albums

But yes, it's way overproduced.

Re: GUNS N' ROSES: "Chinese Democracy" -11/23/08

Honestly the hate this album gets is unwarranted if you ask me. A bit over-produced yes, but overall I enjoyed it. I bet if Axl had put this out as a solo album instead of using the Guns N' Roses name people would have accepted it more. The fact it turned out as good as it did after years of delays and line up changes make me appreciate the album.

Axl is still a talented songwriter.

I wish he'd give up trying to be artsy or whatever and write 10 good old fashioned rock songs and put out another album.
