Maybe there's hope for a new Duke Nukem.

That is my feeling on the two songs I've heard. He spent too much time working on these songs tyring to make them perfect. That was the biggest problem with Use Your Illusion, and here it is even worse.

Caught Body of Lies over the weekend. If the World plays for about 90 seconds during the closing credits -- didn't especially care for it.

Chinese Democracy is growing on me after hearing it several times now.

Does anyone know if the vinyl will come with the CD inside or mp3 codes as other vinyl often does?

I don't remember where I read it, but it said that the vinyl includes mp3 files. I wish they do that with all vinyl releases, I wanted to buy the new AC/DC in vinyl but I also want a copy on my ipod, so at the end I bought the CD.

wow Chinese Democracy the song was worse than I even imagined!

I really thought I have been to hard on him, and the album MIGHT not be HORRID...well if CD the song is any indication, then I had a right to doubt...

Its Generic, and sounds just plain terrible.

Yikes! put it back on the shelf...It needs to age a bit more aparently.

So, what ever happened to the song "Silk Worms" that leaked out? Is it not going to be on this disc or has it also been re-titled?

I don't know (or really care frankly) how the album is, but I just love Chuck Klosterman's review of it:
"Reviewing Chinese Democracy is not like reviewing music. It's more like reviewing a unicorn."

In view of the longstanding Music Talk restriction on discussions of "leaked" music, I've deleted the post originally above this one which mentions hearing the whole album.

Although I was minded to lock the thread and to ask people here to "hang fire" until the album is actually released, there does seem space for legitimate discussion and I'd prefer to allow those staying within the rules to continue.

Thanks to all in advance for their cooperation and understanding.

Well, I have/had low hopes for this LP.....and never believed we would actually see the day it came. However, today I heard "better" on the radio and was blown away. Started strangely I must admit, but by the end I was totally hooked. I am preordering the vinyl at Best Buy now. Which does in fact come with the mp3 files as well.

For the record, I wish this was called Axl Rose - Chinese Democracy as many of you do, but I will still buy it even though it is not GNR-Proper.

Better is a pretty good song, so is IRS, IMHO. They aren't Brownstone and November Rain, but they are good rock tracks.

I think all the versions (even the Best Buy version w/ artwork and all that) are FAKE. Because all I've heard is two or three very generic "rock" songs and about 12 very weak, boring ballads. Not Guns & Roses at all.

Better is a very good song ... so is Street of Dreams.
Why would they release Better as the 2nd single after just releasing Chinese Democracy as the first ???

Ok, I just finished listening to the album on MySpace. All I can say is Axl had 13 or more years to come up with something and this is the best he could do?

Like many others have said, Axl should have retired the Guns N' Roses name and release this under Axl Rose. I might could have forced myself to halfway like it if it wasn't released as a new Guns N' Roses CD.

The songs themselves might not be that bad if he didn't nu-metal it up and add all of the stupid shit to the songs.

I agree with the last two folks...this album licks, to put it plainly. It is NOT G-N-R. It is Axl, at his most excessive, and most annoying, honestly. Not one single track is comparable to even G-N-R's most tossable throwaway tracks, in my opinion. I'll definitely pass on this release.

Sigh. At some point Rolling Stone decided to give a complete pass for anyone that can be classified as a "rock legend." Remember when they gave Mick Jagger's utterly forgettable solo album 5 stars? Whatever his last one was. Having listened to Chinese Democracy, I'd give it a 1 out of 5.
