re: the Kaiser Chiefs, there's a deluxe edition of the album with a second disc and a book - can't wait either, thanks for the reminder of the single, just ordered it from action records.

I've been so emerged into the Horror film challenge I really haven't been listening to much, started listening to the new Keane album - the bonus disc with all the songs in demo form, all I can say from listening to it briefly, uh, what happened?

Awesome, it's one of my absolute favorite albums & it's so rare anybody has even heard of it, especially to those of you that seem to be listening to similar stuff, go out & buy that album now.

Today's listening has been . . .

That last image is The Decemberists "Castaways and Cutouts", which IMO is better than "The Crane Wife".

I should point out that their first of three "Always the Bridesmaid" singles came out yesterday. Vinyl only as far as I know. I heard them play 'Valerie Plame' a few months ago, and it's one of two tracks on this record.

old-boo-radley 10-15-08 06:43 PM

She Likes it on Top - Lillian Axe

(won't bother getting into the whole album... as cheesy as this song is)

macnorton 10-16-08 08:58 AM

Let's see,

Volbeat - Guitar Gangsters & Cadillac Blood, a different type of metal record, I call it "rockabilly metal"

The Gaslight Anthem - The '59 Sound, a good friend of mine (and music confidant) recommended this one to me. There are from my home state and make some kick ass music.

AC/DC - Black Ice, got it from a friend in the radio biz, and it was certainly worth the 8 year wait.

Look through these threads & the "rank em as you hear em" thread. I've been pluggin' this album since it came out, it's my #1 album from 2008, & I too, am from Jersey.

As for today's listening selection it has been . . .

Love this F'n CD, so much better than the absurdly overhyped bands like Arctic Monkeys, Franz Ferdinand etc etc.

My friend Adam had mentioned them a number of times, since a few members are from Roxbury (I live in Morris Plains, so it is close), I figured I would check them out. I was not disappointed. Sucks that I missed out prior, I am usually pretty good with Jersey bands (since my brother has been in a bunch).

How is the Mark Lanegan/Isobel Campbell compared to the other disc? I have been itching to get that one, but wanted to read a review or two before I did.

Phenomenal, actually better, very much along the same lines but it's got a bit more of a jazz-like quality to it, which is why I like it even more than their last.

So far today I've been listening to . . .

Punk band gone alt-country. Great stuff.

Listened to this while mowing the lawn today:

Sessa17 10-20-08 04:08 PM

So far today it has been. . .

I cannot recommened this album enough, I make copies for people to get them into them. The album is like good comfort food, imagine Dylan & The Band making music in their basement. Check out "Tip Your Way" or "Frankie's Gun".
http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/...yL._SS500_.jpg

http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/...0L._SS400_.jpg

The Blow - "Poor Aim: Love Songs" Fun electro-pop. Basically the duo is just a hot girl singing silly lyrics over someone's phat beats. Check out "Hey boy", ridiculously catchy.

Thumbs up on The Black Keys...although I prefer Rubber Factory that one is still awesome.

I just put in Sixty Watt Shaman - Reason to Live in today. That one is fucking awesome if you like Clutch, Kyuss and metal, it is the total package.

I've been digging the hell out this album, too. Glad to see I'm not the only one.

Been listening to:

Empire Of The Sun - Walking On A Dream

Latest effort from Luke (Sleepy Jackson) Steele and some other guy doesn't sound nearly as good as Luke's previous effort, but could be a grower.

Clare & the Reasons - The Movie

Obama, Obama, Obama.

Helios, Caesura
Library Tapes, A Summer Beneath the Trees
Koen Holtcamp, Field Rituals
Matthew Herbert, There's You and There's Me (not to take anything away from the brilliance of the rest of the album, but "The Yesness" is amazing.)
