Kanye's 808's & Heartbreak Out 12/16

When Kanye premiered the Auto-Tuned, un-rapped, week-and-a-half-old "Love Lockdown" at the Disney VMAs on Sunday, we still weren't convinced a new album would be out this year. Now retail sites like Amazon and Target are listing LP4 under the title 808's & Heartbreak with a release date of 12/16, and that's enough proof for us. It is a cool title, sure, but it has nothing to do with school: will Dropout Bear even appear on the cover? You guys should probably start Photoshopping some prototypes. Best one gets a pair of shutter shades.

Pretty interested to see where this guy goes next. I was a big fan of his last album.

I'll definitely get it.

neocheddar02 09-11-08 02:17 AM

His albums have declined in quality since the the first, but I'll still pick this one up. Thanks for the info!

Kanye West arrested at LAX
The rapper is accused of confronting a photographer and smashing a camera. His road manager is also in custody.

Rapper Kanye West was arrested this morning at Los Angeles International Airport on suspicion of vandalism and his road manager was arrested on suspicion of vandalism and battery after the two men reportedly confronted a photographer and smashed the man's camera, authorities said.

The incident took place about 7:50 a.m. outside the passenger security screening area in Terminal 4, said LAX spokeswoman Nancy Castles.

Initial reports said the incident involved "a commercial photographer, 'paparazzi' " and a camera worth more than $10,000, according to Castles.

Castles said authorities were interviewing several witnesses. West was taken by police to the LAPD's Pacific Division jail where Castles said he was expected to be booked.

At least part of the incident was apparently filmed by a TMZ cameraman who was at the airport, the celebrity gossip website said this morning.

The incident caused delays of about 15 to 20 minutes for passengers waiting to get through security. People waiting in line could see West, who was wearing a hooded sweatshirt, standing at the top of the stairs with about 10 police officers nearby.

A security guard told those waiting that there had been a loud argument between West and photographers.

West, 31, rose to fame on the success of his debut album, "The College Dropout," which was released in 2004 and was a Grammy nominee for album of the year.

He is known for flashes of temper and for speaking his mind. During a telethon to raise money for victims of Hurricane Katrina in 2005, West said: " George Bush doesn't care about black people."

Late last year his mother, Donda West, 58, died after undergoing cosmetic surgery in a case that drew scrutiny of the surgeon who performed the procedures.

Apparently, this has been pushed up to 11/25.

Regardless of him being a douchebag, I still really dig his production and his albums.. so I've given 808s a couple of listens through, and honestly, I love it! I was anticipating a flop, given all the flack those have given it, and the fact that he uses a vocoder or whatever, but it's solid. It's short, and to the point, but I enjoyed it.

I can't wait until Monday, this album is FIRE!

As someone who can't stand auto-tune, I hate this album. I appreciate that Kanye is going for a concept and trying something artistically different, but that doesn't change the fact that he can't sing and the auto-tune only accentuates that fact. Please, let Roger Troutman rest in peace and leave that effect alone.

What a terrible terrible terrible album. I think he raps on ONE song. Since when did he think he could be Frank Sinatra? He's singing on every damn song and 75% of them he's doing that stupid robotic sh--. This is a complete waste of time. I tried to let it grow on me by listening to it a few times and it just gives me a headache.

Definitely have to give it to Kanye for following his muse on this one, past successes be damned. Not sure what I think yet but it sure is something. Not liking Amazing for sure though.

I'm not a fan of Kanye as a person, but I am a fan of him as an artist. I think he is very talented and have thoroughly enjoyed his three albums. This one is different, and I haven't gotten through it all yet, but thus far I am enjoying it. I really like Welcome To Heartbreak...I've been having that one on repeat for a while, so it'll probably take me a while to get through the whole album.

On a similar note, I'm actually glad to hear him not rapping out flash and bragging and stuff. It's a nice change of pace.

Somewhat late probably, but i have been listening to this since release day and im certainly digging it! Yeah the auto-tuning is kinda bothersome, but the real problem i have with the album is not his singing, but i think the lack of feeling behind his singing. On most of the songs i feel like he's singing just to sing. But with that said, the arrangements and most of the songs r pretty cool. "Welcome to Heartbreak" has to be my favorite, also "Bad News" and "Cold Winter".

The only reason I bought his last album was in the hope that 50 Cent would quit the business.

atlantamoi 12-13-08 06:26 AM

This is the first Kanye album I can listen to from start to finish and actually enjoy. He's clearly moving away from the same 'ol same 'ol and embracing some fresher ideas. I love that he's a fan of electronic music (the Tears For Fears rip is kind of cool). I don't like every track here, but as a long time non-fan, I'm warming up.

Welcome to Heartbreak and Cold Winter is definitely two of the best in the album.

I still prefer Kanye rapping though.
