New Novembers Doom came out this week - another winner:
Besides having some killer tunes I think it's their best sounding release to date as well.

That November's Doom record was pretty 'meh' the whole way through for me.
New Peste Noire released, and from what I and others can see, with no prior announcement haha. Sounds like another gem to me (not a fan of the belching though, lol).

Site above has some info (probably more if you can read French) as well as a different song sample in the bottom right corner after entering the site. There's a Big Cartel store as well as a North American page to pre-order, though it seems to already be "out" and shipping, despite there being no date mentioned on the page as far as I can see. Though, according to this page, the webstores aren't working and you have to e-mail the band (or labels for North, Central and South America) directly to order.

New Peste Noir? I'll have to check it out.
Haven't been into any of their stuff since their first full length.
I'm excited about the new Haemorrhage album dropping next week

So if any of you are Opeth fans I'm sure you saw all the news over the past week about the title, tracks, and album art. I know a lot of people are less than thrilled but I think it's bad ass. Of course I'm biased since I truly think they can do no wrong. For those who haven't heard and are interested here are the details:
Opeth - Heritage
Track list:
01. Heritage
02. The Devil's Orchard
03. I Feel The Dark
04. Slither
05. Nepenthe
06. Haxprocess
07. Famine
08. The Lines In My Hand
09. Folklore
10. Marrow Of The Earth
Scheduled Release Date: September 20,2011

The heads are kind of weird, but who knows maybe the final art won't have them.
In the end, I won't be staring at the art - I'll be listening to the music.

I really think Opeth's new one should have its own thread. It'll likely end up being my favorite album of the year.
I really like the cover art. A lot. I think it's awesome they're doing something different. The heads don't bother me, but it would look much more elegant without them. I love that Per's head is falling off. Subtle.

Today's Nashville Scene ad for Mercy Lounge/Cannery Ballroom has Opeth playing September 28. I thought they might do a club show here before or after Bonnaroo, but I had heard nothing about a US tour this Fall.

I fully recommend Alcatrazz, Live '83, an album that passed by my attention until this past weekend. It came out a year and a half ago and is old school metal, my favorite kind, but is full on awesome. It's a great recording for a live show and features some great early Malmsteen work.

I hate that cover and Opeth has gotten a bit stale, I still love em but theyre in a bit of a rut. They better make it to TX with Katatonia though!
DAWNBRINGER - Anyone heard these guys? Theyre on Agalloch's label and really dig the CD. Its one of the best things Ive heard in a while.

Taiwanese Symphonic Black Metal band Chthonic's new album 'Takasago Army' comes out today. I'm loving it.

Not a fan of DevilDriver, but I like all the other bands on the tour.
I missed Chthonic the last time they were in the Bay Area (about 2 years ago with Satyricon and Bleeding Through).

Even if the title is amusing, the music is great. I love his voice; it's noticeably lacking in Dimmu now.
