Re: The Official METAL! Thread- Metalcore, Thrash, Progressive, Death, and MORE

from blabbermouth
Atlanta-based progressive metal band MASTODON will embark on a spring U.S. headlining tour in support of its second album for Reprise Records, "Crack The Skye". MASTODON will perform "Crack The Skye" in its entirety along with career-spanning surprises and plenty of visual stimulus in store. This first tour behind the groundbreaking new album will sweep across the U.S. and Canada, playing to smaller theaters and clubs to insure a maximum and up-close intimate environment in which to be exposed to brand new songs and old favorites for MASTODON fans. Support on the trek will come from KYLESA and INTRONAUT.

MASTODON bassist Bill Kelliher told Billboard.com about the band's decision to play the new CD in its entirety, "there's something about ["Crack The Skye"] where it would be weird to leave a song out. We'll incorporate a whole stage show, which will hopefully make it even more exciting for kids to come see and more visually stimulating." The band is also hoping to make a short movie from all the songs, which Kelliher hopes will be MASTODON's version of "The Wall".

Just listening to a ton of King Diamond - I always forget how good his stuff is.

Best song by far IMO: "At The Graves"

EDIT - Lame sound removed on Youtube.

It really sucks that Mastodon's SoCal date is Coachella. Fuck that. I'm considering going to AZ or Frisco just to catch this.

Anyone here a fan of the fucking phenomenal Wolves in the Throne Room? These guys have been blowing my mind since I first heard them last year and I can't wait for the new album. Very atmospheric, haunting metal.

^shameless plug of the band i'm in. our album was simply meshuggah/a life once lost/coalesce influenced metalcore. some people like it, others hate it. oh well.

anyone a fan of Cave In - Until Your Heart Stops? probably my favorite metalcore record of all time. it definitely stands the test of time.

KillerC, have you listened to WITTR's new album Black Cascade yet? It's pretty good, much better than Malevolent Grain. More akin to Diadem..

Yes, I've been rocking Black Cascade non-stop since Friday. I ordered a copy of Malevolent Grain last week, can't wait to hear that one. I like the female vocals they use, so the lack of them on Black Cascade is a notable omission, but I'm a big fan of Diadem so I don't mind too much. Plus, I know they're on Malevolent Grain so it's cool. Now I just need to see them live!

This was certainly a surprise: Pestilence is releasing a new album, Resurrection Macabre. From the YouTube clips their sound is more in the Consvming Impvulse vein but with blast beats. The drums sound really good.

Has anyone else heard Samael's new release Above yet?

It's near unlistenable to me. I don't know if it's the mix, mastering or what, but it just sounds like complete trash when cranked. It even sounds bad on the Amazon preview clips. You can't hear anything but noise. I think this may unseat the earlier Strapping Young Lad stuff for worst sounding industrial metal record. So disappointing.

Re: The Official METAL! Thread- Metalcore, Thrash, Progressive, Death, and MORE

My favorite new discovery is a rediscovery.

Shadow - from Japan. They put out a brilliant, old school In Flames-inspired disc in 2001 and vanished. Then late last year they came back with a new CD, called Forever Chaos. The recipe:

4 parts Jester Race/Whoracle-era In Flames
1 part Iron Maiden guitar work
1 part Dragonforce outrageous guitar wankery
1 part Angela Gossow

Yep, they are fronted by a chick, and if you didn't see her picture you'd never know. I hate cookie monster vocals, especially when in front of a band with such an amazing knack of melody.

Their albums aren't available in the US. I had to, er, obtain them. But I finally found the new one for sale on eBay for $16.

This stuff is AWESOME. They have a bunch of MP3s on their site.
