I like Lady Gaga, but I tried to watch her HBO special and man was that embarrassing. Like Glass Spider embarrassing. But you're right, everyone said how envelope-pushing it was.

I like my artists a little bit fucked up. Sunday school teachers just do not make very interesting music.

I also like how you can listen to Winehouse & not have any doubt that she not only wrote, but lived those songs.

A little bit fucked up? She's about as fucked up as you can be and still be standing in that video. Look up some of the later videos when she's being boo'd off the stage.

Yeah, she'd be tolerated, and fascinating, in a small jazz club or dive bar where there's a five dollar cover. But when you're pulling down big ticket prices, you really need to be professional to at least a minimal degree.

I had the misfortune of choosing that as my first Bowie show. I didn't see him live again until the Reality tour, which thankfully redeemed everything.

Re: Amy Winehouse's music is amazing

BBC reports that the hotels hosting Winehouse on her European tour have been given strict instructions to remove all alcohol from her rooms. Her camp has not yet released a statement.
It won't be long before her camp is an actual camp because the hotels won't have her.

The Daily Mail is reporting that she is dead...but nobody else seems to have corroborated the story yet.

Her record company is srambling right now to put the finishing touches on her final album of finished songs just in time for the holiday season and you know it will win a Grammy next year!

OK, now the BBC is reporting it, so it has gained some credibility. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-14262237

I just read about that. That's a damn shame, although like everyone else I'm not surprised.

This thread title makes me cringe. Amazing... I said that? I mean I like it but eh nevermind. Her death was none too surprising.

Can I take a wild guess that you actually never listened to her albums? Personally, "Rehab" isn't even one of her best tunes. Definitely no shocker that she's gone, but I do wish she had recored more music. Sucks.

R.I.P Amy Winehouse

I absolutely loved her debut album "Frank". I wasn't so hot on the follow-up, but was excited that she chose The Dap-Kings as her backup band on the entire album

27 years old? What a waste.

You can guess but you'd be wrong. I have Frank and Back To Black I just checked my iTunes and the last time I listened to them (Frank) back in '06 and (Back to Black) in '07. IMO they're both just okay. When I said she had "one good song" I was referring to her popularity with the general public as a whole. She's only known for her "Rehab" song, sure she has others that might be better but they sure as hell aren't as popular as Rehab. Go ahead and point me to information that would prove otherwise.

Personally I prefer Adele to Amy Winehouse. In my opinion Adele's voice is way more soulful and genuine. And quite frankly Amy's trouble with drugs kinda turned me off to her music. If she wasn't really concerned about turning her life around (it's obvious, she's dead) and her career suffered because of that, that's entirely on her.

I'll say what's always said when someone dies after suffering from something terrible... "she's in a better place." Because obviously she was suffering on this planet.

do not compare that derivative wannabe hack with Amy Winehouse. Winehouse actually had talent, she just happened to be self-destructive and paid the price. But musically Winehouse was about 100 levels higher than that bubblegum pop tart. She already left behind one album that will eventually become a classic and considered one of the best albums of the 2000s.
