Underappreciated 80's Hard Rock/Heavy Metal Band - Krokus

So Krokus is getting slammed pretty hard on the Sweet thread, and I'm kind of surprised.

Sure, their albums after The Blitz sucked big time, but from '82-'84 they put out three really good albums (two great albums, and one good one, actually) in One Vice at a Time, Headhunter, and The Blitz. (And before that they put out a couple decent albums in Hardware and Metal Rendez-Vous.)

And, in my ever so humble opinion, One Vice at a Time is one of the 30 greatest Hard Rock albums ever.

Some examples....

<object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/o7_7COXa1yQ&hl=en&fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/o7_7COXa1yQ&hl=en&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object><object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/jxBWL4eCTvg&hl=en&fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/jxBWL4eCTvg&hl=en&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>
<object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/Jjhhbr-Begw&hl=en&fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/Jjhhbr-Begw&hl=en&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>

And then there was the fantastic Headhunter album...
<object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/8nf5wBuOCKY&hl=en&fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/8nf5wBuOCKY&hl=en&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object><object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/k9SlyRZBwqI&hl=en&fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/k9SlyRZBwqI&hl=en&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>
<object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/ucT6-lyTMm4&hl=en&fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/ucT6-lyTMm4&hl=en&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>

That's some good stuff (assuming you have any liking of straightforward Hard Rock and 80's Heavy Metal). Sometimes even I forget how good they were at their peak.

And, truth be told, their reunion era material is pretty darned strong as well.

(Hell, here's something cool I just found - A European TV appearance from 1980...)

Also, they provided music for the soundtrack of Mad Foxes!

The best swiss band ever in my opinion (I'm not a fan of Celtic Frost). "Screaming In the Night" is just a great hard rock song, period.

I was a big Krokus fan back in the day and totally agree with your opinion on One Vice At A Time. That is just an excellent album from start to finish.
A lot of people consider that album an AC/DC rip off and you can't blame them. You can really hear a difference between the first two(Hardware and Metal Rendezvous)and One Vice.Guitarist Von Arb even tried to copy Angus's sound but it really is just an amazing album and if you are a fan of DC this album is a must have.Marc Storace sounds creepily Bon Scott like in Down The Drain and a little Brian Johnson like on tracks like Playin The Outlaw and Long Stick.
Here's a story I remember reading back in the day.
Krokus was billed to play one of the Castle Donington festivals and AC/DC was later added as the headliner.DC refused to play the show unless Krokus was pulled and guess what?

Check out this recent clip of Krokus from 2006.
I only wish Brian Johnson could still sing like Marc Storace can here.
This is just amazing 25 years later.

I believe this was the video I saw on cable as a kid -- I saw the name "Krokus" and thought

KROKUS - Screaming In The Night

FYI: Coroner is from Switzerland too (formally Celtic Frost's roadcrew).

For some reason I never liked their studio albums much. Marc Storace's voice just seemed grating or something on all of their records. I like a lot of the songs, the just sound bad after production for whatever reason to me.

However, I've seen them live many times and they always sounded good.

I've played that album for people over the years without telling them who it is first, and almost every time, there will be someone who will ask me which AC/DC album it was? Especially on "Long Stick Goes Boom" - but damn I love that song.

I've always enjoyed Headhunter. But that's the only one that I have from them.

Didn't one of the kids in Gummo have a Krokus shirt?
