That is one of my favorite songs all time and Walls of Jericho is a fucking awesome band. I just checked that one out and that one is a keeper. Thanks for mentioning it, wouldn't have known about it otherwise.

Its on their recently released 'Redemption' EP. Just as a warning though, their other material is more in hardcore/screaming vocals.

i don't mind that. In fact I like it when an arist or band put their style of music to a song that has nothing to do with what they play.

Case in point, Atreyu doing Bon Jovi. It works because it sounds like Atreyu signing a Bon Jovi song rather than Atreyu trying to be Bon Jovi.

For another example, see Between The Buried And Me's cover album or when The Dillinger Escape Plan did a Massive Attack cover. They both sounded like a cheap knock off of the original...what is the point of that? Anyone can play someone else's songs, it take a certain kind of person to put something extra on it to make it something unique.

well, for the btbam covers album, they did change some parts (screaming for 'blackened', adding sweeps to the 'cemetary gates' solo, some brief double bass in 'bycicle race), so they felt like genuine covers and made them their own, and not just sound alikes.

Yes there are those parts, but generally I did find it to be sound alikes. I do love their original material, I just wanted something more from that album.

If it had been more like Garage Inc (in my opinion one of the best cover albums) my opinion would be different.

Never been a huge Neil Young fan, therefore, haven't gotten much into his music, but this is yet another cover that I love from Butch Walker (live from this past weekend in Atlanta):

<object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/bNBpXJqNpj4&hl=en&fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/bNBpXJqNpj4&hl=en&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>

Butch has covered so many different artists and exposed me to some music I probably would have never experienced otherwise. It's pretty cool to me (in addition to the fact that he does them so well).

Like that Aimee Mann version of The Scientist that was posted. HATED the version of Wicked Game (Girls vocals ok, but that guy is no James Calvin Wilsey) and I will admit to liking Fergie's version of Barracuda...Here is both Heart and Fergie

Serve Somebody: Devo (aka Dove the Band of Love)
Victoria by the Fall (especially like it when I'm drunk for some reason)
Soul Kitchen by X
Take Me to the River by Talking Heads
Somewhere Over the Rainbow by Israel Kamakawiwo'Ole

madcougar 07-29-08 01:31 PM

India Arie Heart of the Matter (Don Henley)

Cosmic Bus 07-31-08 10:34 AM

Ben Harper doing The Verve's "The Drugs Don't Work"

Sharon Jones & the Dap Kings doing Kenny Rogers' "Just Dropped In (To See What Condition My Condition Was In)"

Catherine Wheel doing Pink Floyd's "Wish You Were Here"

The Butchies doing The Outfield's "Your Love"

Jimmy Scott doing Prince's "Nothing Compares 2 U"

Jason & the Scorchers doing John Denver's "Country Roads"

Damone doing Iron Maiden's "Wasted Years" (this one gets a lot of hate from Maiden fans, but I think it's a great version.)

The Boy Least Likely To doing George Michael's "Faith"

Squarepusher doing Joy Division's "Love Will Tear Us Apart"

Scala & Kolacny Brothers doing Bjork's "Joga" + Nirvana's "Smells Like Teen Spirit" (this girls choir almost exclusively performs covers, most of which are really striking renditions of songs you'd never expect to hear like this... NIN, Rammstein, Kylie, the Divinyls(!), RHCP, etc.)

I really like their cover of Teenage Dirtbag by Wheatus.

Led Zeppelin had the unfortunate habit, at least in the beginning, of borrowing lyrics (and occasionally melodies) of old blues songs and crediting themselves as the writers.

the sidewinders (before they became the sand rubies) covering neil diamond's "solitary man".
