yay, i get a thread with my name in it, and it involving my favorite sweedish viking/death metal band.
And fuck yeah, Jaxx in va. i missed them last time they came to town. |
Easily one of my most anticipated for the year. Amon Amarth is pretty much all I listen to in the gym. I love these guys live and - lucky me - Anaheim is their first stop. At a House of Blues, no less. Glad they decided to let the metal back in!

And fuck yeah, Jaxx in va. i missed them last time they came to town. yeah, it sold out fast last time. killer show. I'll definitely be there again in October. And it's on a Tuesday, so I won't miss football. I'll probably take the following day off to sleep off the hangover. Looks like Ensiferum and Befelegor are also playing, who are pretty good too. |
looking forward to the album. Not so sure about the show. I DETEST the venue they've selected in St. Paul. It's easily the worst place to see a show I've ever had the misfortune of attending. That said, they get a heck of a lot of really great shows through there. Dilemma.

September is also getting the release of the new The Haunted album, Versus. Now, if Witchery would just wrap up the writing of their new album, I'd be having a great end of the year.

cool. I'm not the biggest Apocalyptica fan. If they could keep the cost down, i'd take just the comic and the dvd.

I asked my friend to let me borrow one of there cd's.. not to familiar with this type of metal.. but i'm starting to like it more and more.. not sure of the name of the cd its in the car.. its black and it has a bonus disk with 6 or 7 extra tracks.. tracks 1 and 5 are my favorate.
just wondering who was the first band to use them type of vocals? and when did they become acceptable? i'm used to them now and kind of like them.. but at first i was like wtf? alot different from the metal that i grew up with... maiden, priest, i call it the power metal voice.. not sure if thats what you would call it though. |
With Oden on Our Side, that's a great album.
I don't have a clue who the first band was that used them, and I agree with what you call Maiden's vocal styling. If you like them, try Dark Tranquillity, In Flames, Nightrage, maybe Soilwork. |
New song up http://www.myspace.com/amonamarth
It sounds very much like their last album, which makes me happy. |
Picked this up yesterday. Got it for $11.99 @ BB, even though it is $14.99. Dumbasses put an $11.99 tag right next to the album marker, then tried to tell me that price was for the CD below it. Yea, right. They changed it for me.
First impression: fucking solid album. Exactly what you would expect from Amon Amarth. They don't try to reinvent the wheel, they just smash it to pieces! I'm seeing them tonight and it's going to crush! I'll probably watch the DVD this weekend. |
picked this up today.. wasn't as lucky as you were, paid 15 bills for it.. but well worth it.. i've only heard some of it in the car.. but from what i was listning to.. it kicks ass! gonna catch the dvd this weekend too.. just hoping the quality isn't as bad as wrath of norsemen.
|
The quality of the dvd is pretty good, although it has the typical quick editing I wish would stop being used.
The album is pretty much how KillerCannibal described it. It follows a similar path that Oden did, but still shows some progression. Too bad they aren't coming to my city this tour. |
11.99 at Hot Topic :D2: Also picked up the All Shall Perish album for 9.99 and the In This Moment album for 7.99. production quality is a bit better on the new album too.
|
Rypro, what did you think of the new ASP album? Initial reaction: I don't like it as much as their last one. The production isn't as solid.
|
I actually currently have the new asp as my album of the year. As there is a more polished sound, and some sick guitar work as well as a hell of alot of range in the vocal department, as this time its not just the 'bree bree' pig squeels that were on most of the price of existance. Hell there is even some clean singing as well that actually sounds good (many times in this type of metal, the occaisonal clean vocals aren't the greatest) my fave songs are 'black gold reign', 'never again', 'awaken the dreamers' 'stabbing to purge dissimulation'(the one song that sounds like old asp, with blast beats and an occaisonal deep vocal), and 'songs for the damned'
|
Hmmm... guess I'll have to give it another listen. I, admittedly, only gave it one spin so far.
|
I want those bobbleheads.
|
Just wanted to say thanks for the thread. I finally got around to checking these guys out and I love it. Great stuff!
 |
Yeah I'm not into death metal but took a listen. Very talented musicians but I can't take someone singing like that for more than 60 secs.
|
This CD was a deaf buy for me, but I LOVE it. Must hunt down all of their other CD's now!
