Remixes: do you have them all?
 

I just finish a 4 hour block of every know remixes of just Rick Astley (It took 4 days to find them all).

Is there an Artist that you have tried to get every verison of one or all of biggest hits (and B-sides).

As for me I have so many remixes that I have to be the biggest Remix junkie there is in the world (And I don't even DJ).

List your Artist fav remixes so that way I can see if I have them as Movies and Music are my one of biggest hobbies thanks.

I like remixes, but it really depends. I am more into modern remixes than 70's and 80's mixes. Don't get me wrong, they're good for what they are, but for the most part they were just expanded versions of the originals, I like the Rauhufer/Bimbo Jones/Thunderpuss (I know they're extinct)/Vasquez/etc... type of mixes better since they turn the songs into entirely different tracks, instead of just a longer version of a proven thing.

I'm a junkie for The Cardigans, so I chase down their remixes and B-sides. There aren't that many though...and all of the remixes king of suck. The B-sides are awesome though. I think remixes tend to work better for music that is already pop/dance oriented.

Faith No More has some really good remixes and b-sides.

I'm missing the Last Cup of Sorrow remixes. I used to have the cds but don't know what happened to them.

You right on mark on that one but the mixes that make me sick.

Are those that have a drum beat (House or Trance) never stops and sound like the same one from 70 other-remixes.

I have every official Nine Inch Nails remix plus a ton of fanmade ones.

I hate remixes. Always have, always will. When I like a song I like <i>that</i> song, not a remixed version of it. It always bothers me when a favorite artists of mine puts out a remix album, or includes remixes as B-sides to singles. They all sound the same to me. Electronic beats bastardizing songs I love.

Personally, I go to great lengths to hunt down every unreleased track, demo and cover song by bands I really enjoy.

Eighties-era extended versions (aka 12" versions) are far, far superior to modern-day "remixes". To that end, I have all of them for Ultravox, Midge Ure, a-ha, Gary Numan, Visage, Devo, Adam Ant, Sparks and probably a few others.

Talking Heads had good extended (not remixes per se) versions as well.

What about songs you don't like? I think Jay-Z's Black album is un-listenable, but I really like Dj Danger Mouse's The Grey Album.

I know a lot of people who can't stomach listening to Yoko Ono, but love her remixes (as Yoko has actually found a lot of latter-career success with remixes of her older songs in recent years). I know people who can't stomach No No No or Hell In Paradise in original form, but adore the recent remixes she did for them because they feel her voice suits dance music much better than it does rock.

I'll agree, except there are some cases where the version I like is a remix instead of the original -- for example Depeche Mode's Enjoy the Silence.

But in general if I listen to an alternate version of a song, it'll be a demo or live recording, not a remix. It's much more interesting to hear a song stripped to basics than having more layers of production added.

I'm not sure. I usually won't give any kind of remix the time of day. The only remixes I can stand are those that rework a song's melody to make it completely different, yet still maintaining the structure of a song. Like Portishead. Their remixes sound like new tracks, not some bass-pounding reworked version of one of their hits. Those remixes I will listen to. I just don't dig the techno crap.

Have every PSB one like Giles mentioned.. Love them, love the majority of the remixes..

Jam and Spoon mix of Liberation is pretty much the best remix evar!

I tried very hard to gather all the Bjork remixes over the years, but some have proved too tricky to bother with. And I just gave up on the "Volta" singles - I bought the digital versions but refuse to fork over for those damn boxes.

I'll join Giles and BDB for the Pet Shop Boys...though mostly digital copies. [I am so waiting for them to do singles boxes a la Depeche Mode...they've talked about it in the past.]

I got a good chunk of Underworld out of the way, but some of those early 12"s....yikes. [And these new Japanese only remix albums...no thanks.]

I'm such a remix whore, it's terrible. Not as bad anymore, but in the mid- to late-90's when everyone was pumping out tons and tons of remixes, I was in music geek heaven.

I have 120+ Depeche Mode Remixes and about 45 on vinyl. Some of them suck. Some are brilliant.

I am a Dave Matthews fan and an EDM fan so I have 2 DMB remixes but they are just AWFUL.

I have every Paul Van Dyk remix ever released but those probably aren;t what you are referring to.

I have every Sarah McLauchlin Remix and she may be one the most remixed mainstream artists ever. She has an entire remix album as a full release.

Dido's sound lends to remixes well.

I've got about six or seven different versions of 'The Black Album' by Jay-Z. Other than that, I have a few Fall Out Boy remixes. Generally, the remixes sound worse to me (although the Depeche Mode remix from this thread is really good).

I should have been more careful with my words. They also list unreleased stuff. Members can submit stuff into the database whether it was officially released or not.
