Older White Stripes albums, why are they so hard to find?

Ok, I just got Icky Thump and I really enjoy it. It's actually my first CD that I bought of theirs dispite liking them for a while now. I also ordered Elephant and should hopefully have it soon, whenever Amazon gets around to sending it that is.

Anyways, I was wanting to buy White Blood Cell's too but it seems to be OOP, same with their self-titled and De Stijl. Any idea of why this is? They are all pretty recent cds so I don't understand why they would be OOP. I considering resorting to Ebay to get them since I don't have any cd stores around me that would carry them.

I tried their site and the only copy of White Blood Cells they have listed is for $32.99 which leads me to believe it's an import. It seems like that everywhere. I'd go check out best buy but the closest one here is like 40 minutes away.

I don't have a borders, but their site lists pretty much all the White Stripes albums as "unavailable". I know last time I checked the closest fye they only had Icky Thump and Get Behind Me Satan.

Yeah everywhere I look they are either "unavailable" or they only list the import versions which is why I came to the conclusion that they must be OOP. I was hoping someone here may know why they might be OOP. Or better yet, where I might be able to find these cd's.

check any independent record store where you live!

I think they were on Sympathy and there were some lawsuits involved once they got big. (maybe they owed Long Gone John another record?) They should still be in print, though the Sympathy website doesn't look like it's been updated in a year and John moved to Washington!(?).

eh, found this on wiki

On February 5, 2008, Canadian media reported that Former Radio-Canada host Dominique Payette has filed a lawsuit against the White Stripes for using a 10-second clip of her interview with a little girl at the beginning of "Jumble, Jumble". She is demanding $70,000 in damages and the removal of the album "De Stijl" from store shelves. [1]

Well, most of the White Stripes catalog was released on V2 Records, and here's what I was able to dig up on them from Wiki...

V2 Records (or V2 Music) is a record label that was started in 1996 by Richard Branson, five years after he sold Virgin Records to EMI.

It was distributed in the US by BMG; however it left for WEA shortly after the formation of Sony BMG.

In 2006 Branson sold V2 Records North America to Sheridan Square Entertainment for $15 million. They since have merged V2 North America with its label Artemis Records. The new label is no longer part of the Virgin group.

In May 2006, much of V2's catalogue, including multiplatinum artists Moby and The White Stripes, was added to eMusic, making the label one of the most high-profile featured on the online music site, which mostly sells DRM-free independent music at a cost considerably lower than many of its competitors.

On 12 January, 2007, V2's United States and Canada branches announced that they were undergoing restructuring to focus on its back catalogue and digital distribution. As a result, their employees were let go and their roster of artists left as free agents.

I know beyond that, that the White Stripes contract with V2 had expired anyway, and that both they and the Ranconteurs are now signed to Warner Brothers records. It's possible that they just haven't reacquired the rights to all of their albums yet, which is why some may be currently in limbo. I have, however, seen some of the titles re-issues on Warners, but no all of them. I've also seen them around in pretty much all of the local music stores in my area, chain or indie - so you should look in ones near you.

Unfortunatly I don't have any local music stores. I'm pretty much stuck with Wal-mart, K-mart, Target, Best Buy (40 minutes away), fye (about 40 minutes away) and Circuit City (30 minutes away) as far as actual stores go.

No, you are right, the self titled and De Stijl originally came out on Sympathy. They were reissued a few years back by V2.

I usually like to have a physical copy of most of my music, unless it's a band that I only sort of like, or if I only like 1 or 2 songs on an album.

Hopefully, these will be vinyl re-issues, as well, AND include Get Behind Me Satan (which was released on vinyl on a very limited 500 copies)... I have all the others.
