My favorite would be Independence Day - the 'unmentionable' version.

The Rules of attraction
Death Proof
Kill Bill (Vol. 1 and Vol. 2)
Six feet under (Vol 1 & 2)
Sopraons (Vol 1 and espescailly Vol 2)
Southland Tales (although only about half of the music is on the CD, and the CD is loaded though with like 70+ min of music, I had to make my own compilation of additional songs from the film I dubbed Vol. 2)
Marie Antoinette
Good Will Hunting
The Royal Tenenbaums
The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou
Rushmore
Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind
Romeo + Juliet
The Devil's Rejects
Chef Aid: South Park album
28 Days Later
Lost Highway
The X-files (the television compilation "Songs in the key of X is what I am talking about although the film soundtrack is pretty good as well)
Thumbsucker
Until the end of the World
The crow 1,2,3

The Proposition

Wow too many to list, but I will try

Kill Bill Vol 1 & 2
Cowboy Bebop
Fight Club
Ocean's 11, 12, 13
There Will Be Blood

And I will also vote for The Life Aquatic....but there is a caveat. I prefer Seu Jorge's Life Aquatic Sessions.

So instead of whining and bitching, why don't you post some of your favorite soundtracks.

As for me:
Ennio Morricone:
*Danger: Diabolik
*The Untouchables
*Fear Over the City
*The Battle of Algiers
*Pardon Me, Let's Make Love
*The Great Silence
*Navajo Joe
*Rome Like Chicago
*Grand Slam
*The Thing, dozens more...

Jerry Goldsmith:
*Planet of the Apes
*Alien
*Explorers

Danny Elfman:
*Pee-Wee's Big Adventure

Bernard Herrmann:
*Cape Fear
*Taxi Driver
*Vertigo

Cliff Martinez:
*Solaris

John Barry:
*From Russia with Love
*On Her Majesty's Secret Service

Brian Eno, Daniel Lanois, Roger Eno:
*Apollo: Atmospheres and Soundtracks (For All Mankind)

Carter Burwell:
*Fargo
*Miller's Crossing

There's many more, but those are the ones I've listened to quite a bit.

If we're going with song-based soundtracks:

- Trainspotting
- Vanilla Sky
- Casino
- Zodiac
- Ocean's Twelve
- Mean Streets
- Any of Wes Anderson's or Quentin Tarantino's soundtracks

And on the TV front: Cowboy Bebop, Samurai Champloo, The Wire, The Sopranos, Freaks and Geeks.

(I made myself "complete" soundtracks of many of the above film/tv titles, but the official discs are pretty good samplers.)

OK...

Ennio Morricone - Cinema Paradiso

John Williams - Too Many, but Star Wars, CEOTTK, ET, Raiders, Jurassic Park and Schindler's List, Superman and Jaws would all make the cut

Danny Elfman - Batman and Edward Scissorhands are terrific scores

Others, love Alan Silvestri's score for BTTF (and his Gump Score), love the Wojciech Kilar's theme from Bram Stoker's Dracula as well as Vangelis' score for Blade Runner..EDITED TO ADD...Jerry Goldsmith's Capricorn One score is terrific too...

Oldboy is my favorite OST. I bought an import off of Amazon a couple of years ago and I've listened to it countless times.

I also really like the soundtrack to Ravenous and the Wes Anderson films.

One soundtrack I was disappointed in was the soundtrack to the Tenacious D movie. I probably had too high expectations for it since I loved their first album so much.

Once is a recent fave.

Most of the OSTs related to David Lynch movies are great, especially Twin Peaks: Fire Walk with Me and INLAND EMPIRE.

Two pages long, and no love for 'Saturday Night Fever'? Jeez, it only had four #1 hits and sold over 15 millions copies!

OK, it might not be at the very top of my list either, but some of the songs still stand up pretty strong today. (And some don't, i.e. "A Fifth of Beethoven")

Some of my favorites:

'Adventures of Ford Fairlane'
'City of Angels'
'O Brother Where Art Thou'
'Magnolia'

Yeah, that was always odd how it was a non-US release. Isn't that CD like 25 mins. long or so? If the US soundtrack had left off the movie quotes and a couple of the weaker rap numbers, it could have easily fit all of RZA's music on there. So annoying.

Gattaca (Michael Nyman)
Jude (Adrian Johnston)
Kontroll (Neo)

I will also admit that, being a fan of Letters To Cleo, I have a soft spot for Josie and the Pussycats.

Detroit Rock City - Hilarious movie, GREAT soundtrack. The best use of songs to fit a scene that I've ever seen in a movie - and they're great songs, too!

The soundtrack CD is just killer - Pantera covering "Cat Scratch Fever," the Donnas covering "Strutter," Everclear doing "The Boys are Back in Town," Drain STH doing "20th Century Boy," plus classics from KISS (duh), Van Halen, Black Sabbath, Thin Lizzy, Cheap Trick, David Bowie, The Runaways, and Sweet.

Game over.

While most of the songs on here ended up either on official albums (the U2 title track and Blood of Eden come to mind), and others on compilations, most of the songs here are unique to this soundtrack (and all were written for this soundtrack even if used later), and several of the songs are different versions from what was released later. I listen to this more than any other OST, period. But if I have to choose one more, it would undoubtedly be Spinal Tap (I know you said non concert film, but really, Spinal Tap is a mockumentary, so I figure it slides in under the wire).

5. Angelo Badalamenti - Twin Peaks

Except for the first pick here , this is a great list. I would put Lost Highway in its place perhaps...
