From billboard.com
After a decade-plus gap between studio albums, Whitesnake makes its debut on SPV with "Good To Be Bad," due April 22.

"The album contains all the elements that I enjoy about Whitesnake," frontman David Coverdale tells Billboard.com. "The responses I've been getting are that the album is a heady cocktail that embraces the whole history of Whitesnake within one album. Which was not planned, but fortunately, I'll drink two of those cocktails!"

Joining Coverdale on "Good To Be Bad" are several longtime Whitesnake touring members, such as guitarists Doug Aldrich (Dio) and Reb Beach (Winger), bassist Uriah Duffy (Christina Aguilera), keyboardist Timothy Drury (Don Henley) and drummer Chris Frazier (Steve Vai). "I'm thrilled with these musicians," gushes Coverdale. "They've lasted longer with me than any other lineup, which speaks volumes. Great players."

While plans for a U.S. tour are still being firmed up, Coverdale and company are about to launch a European co-headlining tour with another '80s hit-making machine, Def Leppard. "Both Joe [Elliot] and I are old friends. We knew it was going to do well, but even we're surprised how incredibly successful it's become," he says. "We've added more shows, because all the arenas pretty much sold out three months before the shows."

Also upcoming for Coverdale will be a remastered three-disc set to mark Whitesnake's 30th anniversary, which he says will "embrace the beginning right up until now -- including some Coverdale/Page and solo Coverdale material." A live Whitesnake DVD is in the works as well.

And just what was it that jolted Coverdale out of retirement to rock once more? "I was asked to tour with the Scorpions in 2003. I went out for two months and ended up coming back nine months later, with a smile a mile wide and a couple of camels loaded with cash," he says. "My wife said, 'Oh, this is a good job -- why don't you do this six months out of the year?' So I thought this is an opportunity to keep me happy and make other people happy, too."

30 years and why no ROCK N ROLL HALL OF FAME?

zombiezilla 03-09-08 07:00 PM

Probably because they've never had a stable enough line-up to induct anyone except Coverdale, LOL. Which would account for their incredibly varied and wildly overrated style. How many people have been in this group, anyway?

So they are the MENUDO of Metal.

zombiezilla 03-10-08 05:54 PM

Yeah, I have NEVER been able to take them seriously as a group, because they quite simply are not a group. David Coverdale should simply bill his "band" as David Coverdale. But Whitesnake?!? They are a "non-group" group. And, never having met David, but hving met many of the players (all nice guys) who've been in Coverdale's band, I would guess that he must be a real asshole to work for/with, or maybe his line-up would stay more steady. All that said, he has no RnRHoF ceremony to look forward to, if I get to vote. Whitesnake is not a band, though I like a small handful of their songs.

Supermallet 03-10-08 06:04 PM

What's wrong with Coverdale using a band name instead of his own? Tons of bands have unstable line-ups. I don't see why Coverdale should get ragged on and not any other band that has ever had a line-up change.

Yeah but dude...look at that list above. That's not just unstable...that's a damn earthquake. Wild. "Menudo of metal"....awesome lopez.

Whitesnake was named after David Coverdale's first (or was it second) solo album.

Because of lack of talent?Mojo did a poll awhile back on the all time worst bands and they were among the top.First was ICP followed by Cinderella,Poison,Styx and Whitesnake.

GuessWho 03-14-08 11:15 PM

Before you badmouth a band and go around trying to give them a bad name...

GET THE BAND RIGHT!!!!!!

The tragedy you speak of was related to Great White, a completely different band with no relation to Whitesnake.

benedict 03-16-08 06:42 PM

 classic!

B5Erik 03-16-08 09:23 PM

Lack of talent...

-ohbfrank- -ohbfrank-

Whitesnake has had more talent in that band than 3 or 4 average bands who put out at least 3 or 4 albums each.

Lastyear - did you even read that list of band members above? Do you even know who those people are?

Let me clue you in - they're only some of the most talented people ever to play in Rock and Roll bands...

Love them or hate them you cannot deny the TALENT that is consistently displayed by Whitesnake (not without looking ignorant, anyway).

Re: Whitesnake Turns 30 With New Album due in April and Tour

I like it. But after seeing David's face, I see now why The Cars chose to stay in the shadows on their new video.

Funny how the word "Love" popped up in the name of their first single for this album. That had to be calculated.

I like that song too. Kinda surprising because I haven't really enjoyed anything Coverdale has put out since Slip of the Tongue.

Re: Whitesnake Turns 30 With New Album due in April and Tour

Sorry...not feelin' de luv.

Competent song but very journeyman-like. Obviously, the guys have their chops down, but the song itself is derivative, repetitive, instantly-forgettable stuff...the kind of songs most bands use as filler. Does it get any more generic than "Love Will Set You Free"?

Not hatin' the song, just wouldn't give it a second listen...if this were American Bandstand, I'd give it a C or C minus. It's the sort of thing that most older musicians churn out with their 'comebacks'...can't see fans requesting this instead of past triumphs.

I actually thought the band looked pretty good considering.

Re: Whitesnake Turns 30 With New Album due in April and Tour

This song wasn't bad, but not earth-shattering on first listen either. I will probably give it a shot though, just because of the strength of Good To Be Bad. I LOVED that album!
